Saira, you just mentioned something that I haven't been able to articulate. We got CHARACTER PROGRESSION from Merlin. For once. Colin's brilliant, yes, some of the episodes are brilliant, but we never really see any of his thought processes other than the incredibly predictable ones. Like, there's silly!Merlin, magic!Merlin, crying!Merlin. He's constantly forced to the do the same things over and over again. And Colin's brilliant, so it works. But for once, we legitimately saw something new in Merlin's character. His doubt, his need to confide in someone (because he only tells Gaius half of the things he's thinking or that he's done), and so many other things that are always in his head in just this one episode. It was gorgeous. I'll say it again. HALLELUJAH WRITERS.

I agree with everything you guys said one hundred times over. I've always enjoyed the standard tournament episodes, because at least they're entertaining. But we got so much more from this episode, not only for Merlin but also for Arthur. Awesome.

Also, Morgana was good at being evil! No smirks! Subtle manipulation! I liked it. :)

SPOILERS 3.12

Can we just talk about how amazing the trailer was? I mean, Sir Leon was in the trailer. Being awesome. *fangirls*

I have so many theories about the upcoming episode. I'm so so so so excited. It looks so good. And it looks like we get to meet new [s]random unattractive[/s] guy. It's fantastic.

SPOILERS 3.12

Tell you guys saw this episode! I was bored with the first part. Blah blah blah. Get the cup. loose the cup. Blah. However, the last few minutes was was glued to the screen. And when Morgana was crowned my jaw dropped. I am beyond excited for next weeks episode! I can't wait to see how Arthur and Uther handle FINALLY knowing about Morgana's betrayal. I hope this doesn't push Arthur father from liking magic though.

^ Continuing from that [still spoilers, I'm afraid], I don't actually think there is going to be any chance of Uther ever supporting magic. Up until 3x12 I thought it'd be a situation where we were literally waiting for him to die, suddenly and dramatically, of course, so that Arthur could take over and we'd finally see Merlin do a few cool tricks in celebration.

Now Morgana's taken over, I sincerely hope she stops using that somewhat creepy evil smirk she's been making use of. I liked her much better when she was full of hate an angst rather than this excessive, annoying unctuousness.

Other than that, I have nothing else to add, except my satisfaction at seeing Uther finally being locked up somewhere [sadly he hasn't yet been hit over the head with something heavy, but I can live in hope] and the *squee!* that accompanies Gwaine's sudden but not unexpected reappearance. :teehee:

SPOILERS WOO

Anyway, I was pretty happy with this episode, there were a few things that made me pretty freaking happy. Leon having a bigger part was nice, because I never realized how much I liked him until we had that first shot of him looking all dead, and I was like "NONONONONO." Also, the return of Gwaine and Elyan. Super exciting. Everything's coming together YEAAAAAAHHH.

Few great moments, that just made me smile. For example, when Merlin was picked to fight, and Arthur got exasperated and volunteered to fight instead. It was nice to see Arthur protecting Merlin again, because god knows how often that happens anymore. Afterwards when Arthur and Gwaine were bickering and Merlin was finally like "if it weren't for that fire (aka ME) we'd all be pushing up daisies." It was just really funny, to see him actually snapping at the two of them. But by far the best moment was the Merlin/Gwaine scene when Arthur was poisoned. "We need some more firewood." "Yes, we do." "Do you want to go get some?" "No, thank you." "There are wolves out there." "Yes, exactly." That whole thing was just too good. Gwaine is probably my favorite soon-to-be knight.

Also, was I thought only one who noticed how HOT Katie was in the last sequence? It was surreal, actually. She was totally gorgeous. And not looking ridiculous and smirking all over the place. Woo.

SPOILERS

I totally agree that the first half or so was kinda boring, but simply could not coem unglued from my computer screen for the second half!

Arthur fighting so Merlin didn't have to and then finding out the champion was Gwaine was classic. Merlin snapping at them with the firing being the reason they escaped was great, and of course Sir Leon! He's one of those characters that's just toally awesome even though he's not a main character (like the one FBI agent in the earlier season of Bones with the glasses that was always on the scene & would talk with Booth...but I digress)

I can't wait to see what's happened to Gwen!!!! The scene between her and Morgana was great, very interesting. If Gwen hadn't already figured out Morgana was evil, I think that moment would have been a huge hint...

I think there might be a chance for Uther to learn from his hating magic, assuming he lives long enough. There's a slight chance of him realizing his hatred of magic drew Morgana to evil...slight...

I'm waiting for some epic magic battle between Merlin and Morgana and/or Morguese...that Arthur's going to witness of course...

And now for the fangirling: Gwaine = :swoon: That man is amazing. Forget Lancelot, I'll take Gwaine thanks (although I am glad to see Lancelot coming back)

Okai. That was the first episode all season that didn't make me want to throw thing at the end. Not that there was much wrong with the other episodes EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT NOTHING HAPPENED FOR TEN OF THEM. (Yes, just ten :P The Quest one and the Rescue-Elyan one actually had character development and relevant plot devices.)

ANYWAYS. This episode was pretty spanking. Not only was there fabulous dialogue, but there was awesome displays of friendship, Gwaine, character development, great acting, Gwaine and over-all good stuff. Did I mention Gwaine?
I might have.

MORGANA EXPOSED. So. Good. Seriously. I have been waiting for this since the first episode. Mostly because Im hoping Uther dies soon, and Merlin and Morgana have a massive battle. Im so excited for the finale. Even if Freya is back, and Uther might not die.

I will quite willingly join the ranks of Gwain fangirl. He's just so drool worthy. *cough* Anywho.....

I don't think Uther will ever change. He will think that magic has corrupted Morgana and that will push him father from magic. At least that's what I think will happen. The fact that Morgana is close to Morguese will only make Uther believe that more. I just hope it doesn't have the same effect on Arthur.

I will admit to loving the shocked look on Arthur's face when he saw Morgana and heard all that she said. I was yelling "Duh!!" at my computer screen. I honestly don't know how Arthur would handle the shock of finding out the Merlin also had magic. It would be interesting.

I am so excited for the next episode! :bounce:

^Yesssss, Gwaine is lovely. I'm glad we got more of his wonderful hair and smile. :D

Sir Leon! He got to be all awesome and run around with a sword and be part of major plot points! I'm so happy for him! Seriously, it was nice to see a not major character get to do some stuff. Like actually report the army of not-dead coming to get Camelot and stuff.

Also, the whole Morgana exposing was awesome. I like that they had her come out and totally take it, not be waiting there for him. Because Uther got to be all "hey, not lawful" and then realize oh heyyy, that's his girlie. And Arthur witnessing it. Finally. Now I agree with Damson, we need an epic magical battle between Merlin/Morgana/Morguese that Arthur sees. I doubt it will happen though.

Lancelot! He's back! Yay! Actually, I really hope the writers do something with him just taking off on Gwen. I want some resolution to that totally un-noble, un-knightlike thing to do. Probably high hopes.

GWAAAINE. :swoon:

^I may be odd, but I never really liked Lancelot. It may be because I didn't like him when I read the stories in the first place. I can't put my finger on why though. I will try to keep an open mind.

I will join everyone in saying that an epic three way magic battle would be epic. It would be cool, but not as epic if Arthur didn't see. Oh well. Here's to dreaming.

^Haha, I think I've mentioned it in here before, but I really never liked Lancelot. I always felt like he came in, ruined the marriage, and basically destroyed Camelot. Plus, the main Arthurian movie I'd seen was Camelot, where he's and egotistical jerk. But I love the way BBC made him. Santiago is great, they made him not a nobleman but with a noble heart, and he came to Gwen first so I feel like he's less of a jerk there. So I enjoy this Lancelot - the rest not so much. :P

I've never been a huge Lance fan either. I much preferred Arthur, and the whole unrequited love thing (save for in Le Morte D'Arthur, when Arthur was told Gwen will fall love with someone else, and he's like, meh, don't care, I want her anyway). But yeah, he's always the one that swoops in and ruins everything. How could you possibly like that?

Don't get me wrong, I love Santiago, and I really like the way Lance is written here, but I HATE Gwen/Lance. I just don't believe that Gwen is like "Arthur, I love you, oh just kidding here's Lance, oh, Lance is gone, Arthur I LOVE you again." Shenanigans. Freaking shenanigans.

And I would love nothing more than a Merlin/Morgana fight. I think that would be the best eye-opener for Arthur or all time. Of course, will the writers give us the satisfaction? Probably not. But that doesn't make me want it less.

Okai, who loved the Round Table scene?

First off, it was a Round Dinner Table.

Secondly, why is Merlin so adorable? I just want to eat him up.

Thirdly, I actually kind of like Gwen's 'trotting around the countryside outfit.
