here's a separate thread for discussion on changing the layout/color scheme and performing technical maintenance/improvements on the main site. basically we're looking for people with coding skills and/or graphic designers.
I'll use this post to list our ideas and keep track of who's volunteering to do what.

I am with Lothy. I know basic coding, enough to make a small site, but don't quite have the skill of this place. I do know enough that I can work on fixing links and putting up new content. And, over the next semester, one of my classes will be working on coding so this will be good practice.
I also (obviously) do graphic work and can help on that end.

Basic coding for me. And the OCD side of me really wants to be the one to fix the broken stuff on the main site, but looks like we're already getting plenty of help there.

Same as Haldir, I can do both. The only thing I'm iffy on if coding the forum, since all I have experience with there is changing the colors.

This is probably really early yet to be putting it out there, but I had the thought so I figured I'd share.
I know a lot of us wanting to revamp is because we're expecting traffic with the Hobbit. With that in mind, I think it'd be cool to have an Arwen/hobbit layout, perhaps taking from the end of RotK.

Well, this topic is titled layout and coding so I imagine thinking of what the new layout should be would fall to this topic so wouldn't be a rabbit trail.
I'm definantly thinking warm colors, but that's mainly because I'm cold right now... lol.
But I like the idea of integrating Hobbits into the top banner somehow. It's a really ingenious idea.
What we could do is come up with a series of color schemes and banner ideas and do a poll to see what all the other members, who aren't part of the discussion, would want. (Oh wait, this kinda has already been done... hasn't it?)

Kind of. From what I saw, it seemed that people were leaning brown/yellow or greens. Pretty much anything to get away from blue.  Perhaps those of us feeling graphicy could each put together a small sample idea, and let people have their say on those? _________________ going on a journey through my old claims

Yes, we did have a thread about what people wanted ( http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=20996 ) and I think greens/oranges/browns won.
But ultimately, I think as long as it's not blue then we should be OK.
Again though, will this be an all member choice, or just the people coding/graphicing? Is it going to be like the content and news, a nice surprise for everyone?

You all know I couldn't do coding and graphics to save my life so I'm only here for brainstorming and discussion.
Personally, I think it would be fun to see all the different sketches and ideas you creative minds could come up with for the layout, BUT having the entire fourm to vote on it may be confusing.. or I don't know.. not needed? Arwen has always updated out of the blue and everyone soon got used to the change of layout.
I wouldn't mind if the graphics group took the lead and decided this amongst themselves.
You could do even a layout launch party.. you know build up suspense a couple of days ahead and then a countdown where we'd all be so excited that we'd be sitting impatiently in front of the computer just waiting for the new layout to pop up!! And we'd have champagne and a thread to celebrate... 
PS. I love the Arwen/Hobbit theme idea. I admit there's gotta be hobbits there because of the movie.. but remember the site's name... We need Arwen too!! *clings to Arwen* _________________ >>Be the change you wish to see in the world<<
