Although Elrond seems pretty nice...

Elrond was the exception, he wasn't cold like the Mirkwood elves seemed to be. Although they didn't seem as bad at the end of the book, they were kind to Bilbo.

My favorite characters are Smaug and Bilbo Smaug because I love dragons and would die to meet one (which would be very possible I will die after meeting ^^) and Bilbo...well, Bilbo is just simply utterly awesome and gives the book even more humor that should be ^^

^ Agreed! I love dragons too, and yeah, dont think that you would be able to tell anyone you met a dragon, unless you stumbled upon a nice one, or one that recently ate. And Bilbo did add humor to the story, I like when he got irritated by all the dwarfs grumbling and moaning and would tell them off, that always made me laugh.

Did you notice how playful the Rivendell Elves were? THey were teasing in a friendly manner.

They are very playful and teasing individuals! Loved that aspect for the elves in Rivendell. I always thought that the contrast between their joviality and their wisdom was incredible, and made for such rich characters.

There are so many different types of elves. In Rivendell they are playful. Lothlorien more serious but happy. In Mirkwood they are somewhat happy but yet appear mean.

Yes, I suppose they could be seen as that. Yet, from another point of view, are they just on edge living literally in a forest inhabited by Evil?

I never thought of that, Mirkwood was a rather dark forest, for it being inhabited by elves. They certainly didn't like those giant spiders living there, and I dont blame them! But that could explain their mean treatment of the dwarfs, plus the fact that they just dont like them.

I love Rivendell elves, I think most of all elves in Tolkien books. Yes, they seem to be playful and because I am not playful at all, I find it refreshing and somehow cute.

Yes, the Rivendell elves were different than they were in LotR, probably because at the time there wasn't a war brewing over the Ring at the time. They did seem a bit more happy and carefree in this book.
