^ Despite having read and loved the books before I saw the Golden Compass I actually was very impressed with that movie. I thought it was a far better adaptation than the Harry Potter movies though maybe it was just an easier story to make. The actors seemed pretty much perfect for their parts. Though I d agree the bear fight could have been better I wasn't expecting it to be as brutal as in the books.

One movie I'll never watch again is The Secret in Their Eyes which I saw a couple of days ago. It's an Argentinian thriller which starts off with a rape and murder and then never really gets much happier. It was a really good movie, the kind of movie you watch and then think about for the next week but I found it just too grim to want to watch again for pleasure.

I haven't seen it yet but I already know it is one of those movies that I will not want to see again. From what my friends have told me there are a few very disturbing scenes... immoral and grotesque things happen and any movie that has those things, such as any of the Saw movies I will not see!

Elanor- Same here . Like I said in my original reply to the comment about it, I wish they'd make films out of the last two books, even if it's only a straight-to-DVD/video thing. I mean, you can't use a series of books as the source material for a movie, then not make however many more films are required to finish the story :/. Maybe someone else will pick up the project in the future and either make another version of The Golden Compass & follow it up with movie adaptations of the last two books, or just make films of those and allow the one that was made to remain as the adaptation of the first book :[.
I completely agree with you on the casting . The young actress who played Lyra was excellent. Nicole Kidman has been great in everything she's done since *ahem* splitting from Tom Cruise (I love you, Tom, but it seems like her career has really taken off since you guys got divorced), and this role was no exception. Daniel Craig was also good, though I've only seen him in his role as James Bond. And Ian McKellen, though it seems like he's been cast in a lot of fantasy and sci-fi movies since playing Gandalf in LOTR, which is rather unfortunate, was perfect for Iorek, in the same way Liam Neeson was/is for Aslan in the film adaptations of Narnia. In regard to what you said about the portrayal of the bear fight, yeah, I wasn't expecting it to be as ugly as it was in the books, either. Had it been, the rating probably would have been upped to PG-13. Even so, I think the production team kind of hinted at how brutal it was with the nature of Iorek's killing blow to his opponent. It looked to me like he ripped his throat out, then lopped off his lower jaw, so that's...a pretty gruesome way to kill someone .

i've never seen a movie so brutal that i can't watch it - it's one of those quirks i have, that fake violence/gore doesn't really turn my stomach. so it's hilarious that the most recent movie i can think of that i won't watch again is never let me go... because it's too sad.

if a movie makes me cry, it's because it's affected me way more deeply than i'd like. i'm not the kind of person who's willing to put himself through the emotion of (for example) watching a character i really connect with die AGAIN.

Violence and Gore don't really put me off films, usually it's the fact that the film is so painfully boring, or epically rubbish that puts me off re-watching it!

I'm so surprised that loads of people have said Schindler's List as I think it's a brilliant film, and I like how unflinching it is- The Holocaust isn't something that deserves to be glossed over or glamorised. Tbh I found The Pianist a bit more harrowing as it gave a greater sense of the devastation of WW2 and the human suffering. Though I would be reluctant to re-watch Schindler's in a hurry just because of how long it is!

It would take an awful lot to make me watch The Descent again, firstly because it's the only horror film that's actually scared me, and second, because I'd be embarrassed at myself for finding it scary first time round, but not thinking the same the second if that happened, because it's premise is kinda stupid!

Second up is SAW possibly the most boring film I've ever watched- seriously what is scary or thrilling or even interesting about 2 men sitting in a bathroom, and then one cuts his foot off??? Too long, too slow and I was waiting for some good stuff to happen!

I also loathe The Sound of Music it's so long and nothing interesting happens, the songs are annoyingly catchy- and i maintain it is unhealthy to want the Nazi's to win! I've sat through too many Christmases/Easters/bank holidays when this film has been on, and I don't want to re-live the experience again. However, I do have a friend who's husband was sponsored to watch TSoM, for Charity, because he'd never seen it. Under those circumstances I may be able suffer it again!

I'd also like to add Pocahontas 2 is a travesty, that I wish I'd never seen and try my hardest to forget- and I wouldn't force myself, or any other poor fool to suffer it again. And I'd also like that I'm not watching the Home Alone films, Free Willy or Black Swan again!

I don't like Hostel and Frontiers because in them gore is just for sake of gore, no action, only tortures. I usually like gore movies like Saw but these two I won't watch ever again.

Also, I won't see Alien: Resurection, because I was so sorry about white alien, the child of Ripley, that I couldn't stand it!

movies that I cannot and will not see EVER again are Ladder 49 and The Passion Of The Christ. The first one was because it was too unfair, you see the entire life of a firefighter unfold only to watch him die, the second one well....do I need say anything at all? the most painful movie I've ever seen, physically even, my back was killing me because is like I could feel the slashes Jesus was getting.

I will NEVER watch any "Saw" movies. I always wonder how does these Saw fans stick up with the movie if the movie itself is so disgusting. I mean... I really can't watch that movie and I will not stand for like even 30 seconds in watching that. Secondly, yes, Passion of the Christ. I always ended up crying because of that movie.

Saw II and Saw III are actually very good movies. Yes, they are very sadistic but sometimes its good to see something that way. It only depends on fragility of your guts

I can't deal with horror movies, at all. none of em. Especially the Nightmare on Elm Street movies, I so much as even see a picture of that Freddy guy and I can't sleep. I have never seen more than 15 minutes of the movie, but I just can't watch the rest, it freaks me out. And the Final Destination movies, I can't watch those, the only movie that seriously almost made me sick.
