Niko could see she was troubled as she played.
Sitting up he asked her '' Love, is something troubling you?'' He set down his ale and lightly placed his hand over hers.

"It's just father. I had no idea..." she clasped his hand and squeezed it. She knew that she would even give her father up if it meant a life with Niko. "I'm glad you're with me. I could not settle for anyone else." She brought his hand to her lips and kissed his knuckles.

''What about you father?'' He was curious, hoping she wasn't feeling bad.
He moved closer and put his arm around her.
''Nor could I , angel''

She looked at him, pondering how to answer that. "I saw him just now. He had one of my corn husk dolls...and was holding it, crying." she met his gaze and leaned against him "Never do I regret marrying you, love."

He heard her words and began to feel guilty. He had robbed a father of his child.
''Do you not wish to see him? We could explain that we did what we needed to do to survive. I have never wished you to give up your family for me''

"No, we cannot go back." she looked at him, and saw his guilt. She placed both hands on his cheeks "Niko, a wife leaves her family to be with and live with her husband. And I would not give you up for the world, and I do not regret leaving. You are my family, you are my home now."

If he had never come into her life she would still have her family. Though she would likely be married to Elthor, to her torment. Niko took comfort from the fact that he had saved her from Elthor.

"Niko..." she whispered "Do not feel badly, things took their course, and there was nothing else we could do." she needed to cheer him up. She was facing the terms. And if she had gained her family, she would have lost Niko. She could not bear the thought of him not being in her life. "If I had gained my family, I would have lost you. I could not live had that happened." she embraced him close to her.

He held her, comforted but still a tad guilty.
''A family is no small thing to lose, angel. I would take the blame for you if it saw you back to your family.''
Niko loved her and could scarcely believe she had given up her family for him.

"Put it from your mind. It is us now, husband. We shall have a family of our own." she smiled gently, they may have one sooner than they thought. She kissed his cheek. "I love you, husband."

He returned her smile.
''As I love you, wife'' He tilted her head and found her lips with his.
''Play another song. A cheerful one to pick up the mood'' Niko smiled and handed her a cup of ale and took a swig of the bottle himself.

She returned his kiss, took a drink of the ale, and nodded. She played a a lilting jig, tapping her foot to keep rhythm. Her eyes lit up as she played. The tune filled the room with cheerfulness.

Niko laughed as she played, clapping in time with the music. He stood up and scooped her up in his arms, urging her to keep playing as he twirled and spun her around the room.
This was just what they needed to forget all of their troubles for the moment.
