Hi, everyone!

I've started this thread because I thought it would be a good idea for us to welcome newbies in a new way! If they need help, they're not going to know who to go to, so they may not ask or they'll probably ask a mod. I thought it'd be nice to give the mods a break!

So, if you don't mind being partnered up with a newbie when one arrives, could you PM me right away so that I know who willing to help out and who can't please?

But I think it would be a good idea if I partnered people up just so that one newbie doesn't have a 4 different helpers.

This is actually what the welcoming team is for. They're not super active right now, but you could always try and revive the team

^ I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to start it again separately from the Welcoming Team, since its leaders haven't been around and most of the team has sort of died out. (All this was already discussed in the Misc Randomness section. )

Thanks for starting the thread, Aerli. So how is it gonna work? Are you going to assign a helping fairy godmother to every newbie or should they post here if they wish to be adopted?

The way the Welcoming Team did it was to assign a buddy to every newbie. The buddy would PM the newbie a welcome message offering help and advice and friendship and pie. JF and Larael are official Welcomators but they are both busy at the moment so this is a great initiative.

Ea, I was thinking that we would just have the newbies post here because I'm not sure if everyone's going to want to have a helper and want to figure it out for themselves. (We'll also have fairy godfathers, too! The first/only person to PM me is a guy, and I don't think he'd want to be a godmother! )

I think you need to advertise it a little more perhaps make it clearer in the title or make a new thread for it if you want this thread to be where newbies sign up to be adopted. With the current topic title it might target people who want to act as buddies/mentors/big sisters/brothers more than new members.

Actually, we could make it less complicated and just have a thread where newbies post if they want to be adopted and any member can post and adopt the person so it becomes sort of a self-running system. That way it reduces the work load on you and we're less dependant on a single person who might get ill or be too busy to post here.
