I kind of doubt he really died though. If Holmes could come back after that, then why not Moriarty? If they're planning more movies, that is.

Am I the only one who liked it better than the first one? I thought the script was just so much better, since they based it on actual stories by Doyle rather than starting from scratch.

I liked it better than the first one too! :D It was the WWI artillery that did it for me, because I'm history crushing on WWI right now, but ugh. Perfection. Also there was more gay subtext less Irene Adler so it got bonus points on that account. :P

I thought the plot made more sense, though. It was simpler--grander, maybe, but easier to understand.

Also Madame Simza. I loved her, and I'm so happy they didn't try to force her into a Love Interest role. She didn't need it, and she ended up being very likeable--for me, anyway.

And yes. Stanley.

Both Sherlock and War Horse have led me to believe that none of the guys who designed such artillery thought far enough ahead to figure out how to transport them across a friggen' continent. *grumbles angrily* Some of the shots of the artillery in Sherlock was actually a bit haunting/chilling, especially that giant cannon in the warehouse.

And yes! I thought I was the only one who didn't like Irene Adler. Maybe it's partially because I dislike Rachel McAdams, but I just really dislike Irene as a character. Simza, on the other hand, was awesome in an understated way. I feel like the first movie beat us over the head with "This is Irene, she's almost a match for Sherlock in awesomeness."

And was anyone else hoping for a Phantom of the Opera reference while they were at the Opera House? ;)

YES I LOOOOVED Simza! As you can probably tell. :teehee:

I was totally nudging my brother, giddily going "it's the Phantom of the Opera opera house!!!!" when the opera house was on screen. He couldn't care less though, haha.

Stanley was the best. My hero. He deserves his own film.

Oh, and that was the least of their problems. No one had any idea what they were getting into and then it was a giant mess...

Ha, I had no idea that was the PotO Opera House, though I should've known! :) Gorgeous place. They definitely could've made some reference in the movie, the scene was perfect for it... *sigh*

A Stanley movie. Oh my god I want it because of reasons.

I added PotO references myself. Such is the brilliance of having OCs for every fandom ever. :P

I would see a Stanley movie, provided that Watson's dog Gladstone had a cameo! ;)

*SPOILERS*

No I meant Irene Adler dying. I was shocked by that as it seemed I don't know.... cruel. I didn't really like her in the first film mainly because of certain plot points where she was suddenly the expert on EVERYTHING, but I liked the hints of vulnerability and then again in this film, so for her then to die.... I'm actually hoping she didn't.

I actually thought this film was more complicated. I mean, who even noticed the twins that were suddenly a major plot about cosmetic surgery that so perfectly changed people in 1890's London? I think the first film was far more straightforward but it's always nice to be confused.

I can't honestly say I thought much of the Gypsy woman. I was very grateful for the fact she was no love interest and she didn't annoy me or anything, but I just found her to be pretty bland and just there rather than being there for a reason. Except she did lead us to the very sexy Claude... who then shot himself. :-( Mon dieu.

I think my favourite scenes are still just the ones with Holmes and Watson. I loved the train scenes especially. How far Sherlock Holmes has come from Terror by Night.

Col. Sebastian Moran was a really cool character. He made up for the lack of Blackwood.... almost. ;) He's hardly ever mentioned in SH adaptations, so it was good to see he'd been put to good use. I thought the chase through the forest was really an amazing looking sequence, especially when the focus was on him.

I'm looking forward to watching it again when it's on DVD, mainly because I was too busy foot tapping and inwardly squeeing at the inclusion of an Ennio Morricone piece of music, I totally glazed over the whole "pony ride" sequence. :P

For anyone wonderin about the ending of the movie (the, yeah, that surprising part), and if you're really curious, you can look up the story "The Adventure Of The Empty House". Now what they'll do in the movie, not sure.
And I was glad for the removal of Adler's character...but I have completely different reasons for that.....
Agreed, Simza was awesome! And she didnt have a romantic part with Holmes either!...oop, gave away my reason for dislikin Adler with that one!
This movie was fantastic! Is it out on dvd yet?? Are they makin the third one yet??....Actually Robert's makin the third Iron Man right now so Holmes will have to wait. And if I talk to much just tell me to button up, its just that I dont have anyone else to talk Holmes with!
Oh the pony scene! I was cracking up and inwardly jumping around at the same time, my mind freakin out saying 'Thats from Two Mules For Sister Sara! Clint Eastwood movie music!' They probably did that because Robert is afraid of riding horses.

And while you guys were all excited about that, I was jumping up and down over the Don Giovanni opera bits...I am a Mozart nerd and proud of it!

We should make 'I don't like Irene Adler badges

The ending of the movie was enough to get my 15-year-old brother, who's not much of a reader, generally (though he does love HP and the Percy Jackson books, but he didn't like The Hobbit and stopped 15 pages in...) ask to borrow my copy of the Complete Sherlock Holmes so he could read it. That is enough to make me want to marry the movie right then and there. :)

Also, must resist urge to ressurect my Sherlock fanfic...

Well, the opera parts are on the movies soundtrack. Both, the one from the opera house, and the song Moriarty was singing at the part I wanted to jump through the movie screen and help my detective.
What did y'all think of Holmes' homemade camouflage? I loved it when he was shooting darts at Watson! 'You still cant see me?'

The urban camoflage was great! I loved the fact that I saw the film twice because the second time around, when I saw it with my family, I knew to expect it and I spotted him both at the beginning and the end of the film. Not the most flattering of attire, but he could probably look good in anything. :P

Well, I would have to say the worst I've ever seen Robert look was in this movie...he may be (in my opinion) a really hot guy, but he's a really ugly woman!

I love "Die Forelle" (the one Moriarty was singing). I used to play it on the flute all the time.

Oh my Gods, had completely forgotten about the pony. Classic!

Was anyone else TOTALLY reminded of Rohan during those horse scenes--with the scenery, I mean? The plains and the mountains and the grass, it was perfect! I leaned over to my friend during it and whispered, "When did they go to Middle-earth?"

No, cant say that popped into my head, I was probably too preoccupied with the music being from a Clint Eastwood western. I'll have to pay more attention to the scenery when I see it again. With all this Holmes talk going on I think I'm gonna have to watch the first movie tomorrow, I'm in a bigger Holmes mood than normal!
