"The Return of the Dancing Master" by Henning Mankell is an excellent choice.

If you like mysterious/magical/supernatural books then

"Agnes Cecilia" by Maria Gripe is also an excellent choice

I agree! Great book, especially for a writer as long as he is! His sequel, "Elders" (or something like that--the name kinda reminds me of something elvish lol) comes out this August! I can't wait!

I recommend Fire Bringer, by David Clement-Davies. I wouldn't exactly call it a fantasy, but it has plenty of suspense and mystery

well, it depends on what books you're looking for.. i just mentioned one in another topic..
the yellow wallpaper, which can be read online .
it is an amazing book and very short, i loves it. very unique
also, the Turn of the Screw by henry james. oh that book is killer. it picks you up and carries you away. so awesome.
for a less serious one, and (i'm guessing you're a girl) stargirl is good. cute and easy reading
and if you haven't read Roverandom, (you probly have) it's great. really good i own it and it's one of my faves.
other good ones are Jane Eyre, wuthering heights, ella enchanted(not like the movie), and especially, 'tales from the Brother's Grimm and the Sisters Wierd'' that's awesome. i love it.

Hello , I would recommend any of the Jane Austen novels, The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton, or if you want a looong book to read, read Anna Karenina - it's long but well worth it. Well, that's it

Hello People.

First off, I have to say that I love the book Eragon. Eldest (not Elder) is out and it's really really really really good. I'm about a quarter of the way through it andI con't put it down!

And if you life suspence and fantasy, read books by Ted Dekker. I reccommend the Circle Trilogy. The titles are Black (the first book) Red (the second book) and White (the third book)

I really loved Eragon as well, I haven't started Eldest yet (not all the way done with Eragon) but I certainly will

As for books I recommend, I think that two of the best books I have ever read were A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray. They were so descriptive (but not in an over-the-top way) that you could picture everything perfectly. I think everyone (probably ages 13-14+) should read this, you can read about it here:

I would reccomend the The Lamb among the stars series, by Chris Walley. Myst Which I have not read it yet, but there a game tied to the books. Nancy Drew mystery series is good, and I love the Black Arrow by Robert Louis Stevenson, and then there's The classic mysteries of Sherlock Holmes.

Hm, I'd say Prey by Michael Crichton - great thriller. Also Phillip Pullman and Garth Nix are awesome writers (see pg. 1) and you must try out Douglas Adams; The Trilogy in Five - Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Restaurant At The End Of The Universe, The Life, Universe And Everything, So Long And Thanks For All The Fish and Mostly Harmless. Agatha Christie is also awesome and I think I've read something by John Grisham ... Yes, it was The Will.

read Philip Pullman, the Narnia books, Artemis Fowl, Inkheart and Inkspell, The Thief Lord and Earagon. (those are all I can think of now)

I would reccomened The All-American Girl by Meg Cabbot...Author of Princess Diaries..

I thought this book was going to be really preppy. but its not..About a tom boyish girl who skips school one day and she ends up saving the president of the United states. and gets offer a part in the white house or seomthing liek that. and she falls in love the the presidents son, david

and shes love to draw stars. So i really enjoyued this book cause she reminded me of her.
