I finally finished A Dance With Dragons. I... can't even. What. I don't think a keyboard smash would even express my feelings.

I'm revisiting Beowulf (an Anglo-Saxon heroic epic), and I'm realizing how similar to The Hobbit it is... I'm thinking it's likely that Tolkien based The Hobbit after Beowulf. I'll have to look into it...

^Oh yeah, very much so. Tolkien was big into Anglo-Saxon lit and northern mythology and borrowed a lot of it to make his work. You ought to see some of the Norse myth with the Dwarf names! Still working through Les Mis - finally on the section where Marius is introduced!

I'll have to look into it... Bilbo stealing the goblet from Smaug is a direct lift from Beowulf. Exact same sequence of events, I kid you not.

^ Yeah, and Gollum also seems rather similar to Grendel.
I'm into poetry once again... and I am currently reading T.S. Eliot.
