I really enjoyed it! I thought it had a good balance of adventure and personal moments. "Save the Daleks" is quite the thing to start out with! I also am very curious as to how (Clara) Oswin will be returning given....well, you know. Still, I thought she was brilliant so I'm eagerly awaiting her as a companion! :D

And can I just say, erasing the dalek's memory? Brilliant. Which adds a whole new dimension to the final question "Doctor Who?" I know there were people complaining about the repeated "DOC-TOR WHO?" like at the end of season 6, but I see a huge variance in the context and tone of both. S6 - the Doctor is too well known, to feared by everyone. Doctor Who? is asking about his dark past, what he has done, why he has been on the run for hundreds of years. By contrast, he has just told the daleks, his oldest, deadliest enemies who know everything about him, who have fought him time and time again, who were trapped in a war with his people, that he's the Doctor. And they say, Doctor Who? Not IT IS THE DOCTOR, EXTERMINATE! but "who are you, why do you think we should know you?" Doctor Who? The simple, innocent question of a people who are curious about this madman who popped into their spaceship. (Now, given it's the Daleks, they will want to know more because he is not one of them and caused a security breach, but he is no longer The Doctor.) Then the Doctor can go off to the TARDIS and repeat to himself their questioning, "Doctor who!" and revel in the fact that his "death" worked and that he has a fresh start. He doesn't have to be known as the most feared being in the cosmos anymore because the ones that hate him the most and remind him of his failures the most no longer know who he is. That, my friends, is brilliant writing and I am so excited for how the rest of the season pans out.

I thought it was brilliant. Loved Amy and Rory, loved loved LOVED Oswin, and I loved the plot twists. However, at some points it didn't even feel like the same show anymore. The characters are the same, but something felt off a bit and I can't even explain it. I loved it, but at the same time I felt a big letdown after watching it.

Me too, unfortunately. But maybe that was due to all the hype surrounding it?

But what I'm a bit miffed about is that the Daleks don't remember him--I mean, they've been his biggest enemy for YEARS, and now just to erase all that? Unless the Moff finds out a way to make the Daleks remember the Doctor again, I have a feeling some Classic fans will be a bit disappointed.

But on a better note, I LOVED Oswin! There are some theories going around that she lied, and this was the end of her journey with the Doctor, so all the adventures we've yet to see have already happened with her. And then there's another theory that she's Jenny, which I like the most. Thoughts?

My favorite theory, the one I'll be sticking to until proven otherwise, is that the Oswin we saw is actually a descendent of our new companion. Because it's already been confirmed that the new companion is a girl named Clara Oswin from modern-day Earth, whereas that Oswin in AotD was from a future where you could in theory pilot your own spacecraft and stuff. Plus, you have to take into account that the Doctor never saw what Oswin looked like, only heard her voice. So when he meets the new companion, he'll never know that they looked identical...

The reason I don't think she's Jenny is that we saw Jenny 'regenerate', and her appearance didn't change....plus the Moff has also stated that the new girl has no relation or connection to any characters we've seen previously in past seasons. Of course, he could be trolling again, but I'm inclined to think he's telling the truth.

Charging into the discussion with a couple of thoughts. :P

Okay, there were some parts of the episode that I thought were brilliant. I loved Oswin like everyone else did, and I loved (and hated because ugh feelings) the twist. The "Doctor Who?" part was a bit cheesy, but ultimately pretty cool because (as Nurr said) the context was just so different than what it was before.

Now. My complaints. Basically, nothing in that episode was explained very well. Why were the Daleks converting humans into Daleks, exactly? Did I just miss something important? Sure, it was unsettling and stuff, but that confused me.

Second, I thought the whole Amy/Rory divorce thing was set up very poorly. I guess some of it was explained in that Pond Life miniseries thing, but I didn't watch it, because I thought it was just an extra little thing for people who were excited for the actual series. If I'd known it was going to be important to the actual show's plotline, I would have taken the time to give it watch, but I didn't, and I don't think it's right to alienate the more or less casual viewers like that.

The "human" Daleks were security. If you landed on the planet, you'd be converted in order to stop you doing something (such as removing the forcefield) that would cause the mad Daleks to be able to escape. And the few they had on their ships were mainly for communication, like they did with the Doctor.

It actually wasn't explained that much in Pond Life. The most we got was a bit in the last video of Rory storming out of the house and Amy following looking alternately mad and sad. That was about it, so you didn't miss much. ;) I, personally, hope they delve a bit more with this subplot instead of leaving it to be that they're all just fine now.

Ah, okay, thanks. :teehee: See, if they would just have someone explain these things calmly and slowly rather than running and waving things and shouting as fast as they can, then maybe it would be easier to follow. Of course, very convenient that they were able to pose as bus drivers and makeup artists to find Amy and Rory... guess some Daleks were doing their research. That's not as big a thing to complain about though. :P

If an alien with a bow tie can travel through time in a telephone booth, I think his nemesis can pass off a person as a bus driver. :teehee:

Maybe it explains why nobody was on that bus.

The makeup person, though. Makeup Dalek. I'm not sure, but I may have just fallen in love, because that is actually brilliant and I would watch an episode devoted to that Dalek reading fashion magazines.

... she was a makeup artist, wasn't she? Actually, I don't care, I'm just going to go with that. :P

Makeup artist or personal assistant, that was my guess.

Speaking of Rory on the bus...why?? The Doctor gave them an AMAZING car at the end of The God Complex last season. Where was the car? Did Amy get it in the divorce? Come on, Moffat. :P

I didn't care for the episode last Satuday. I felt it was rushed and poorly done. The whole gang thing was stupid in my opinon.

The first episode of the season was better and I really liked the new companion. It will be interesting to see how they bring her back.

I quite liked Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, actually. It really played up the fact that the Doctor can't help bringing home strays, as the TARDIS says--even if it's only for one adventure. Plus, I loved how at the end Neffy stayed with Riddell, because it actually makes sense historically because Nefertiti actually disappeared from records 14 years into the reign of her husband! I love it when DW does those subtle nods to history.

Also. Triksey the triceratops? CRIED SO HARD WHEN HE DIED. It was like The Land Before Time all over again!

I liked the Dinosaurs episode much better than the Dalek one. I hate it when shows like this take themselves too seriously, so I loved that this was basically just a history nerdfest with bonus dinosaurs and robots and Walder Frey

And yes! Killing the triceratops was infinitely sadder than Oswin's... situation. My heart was in so much pain. :'-(

I thought it was just a really entertaining episode. It was fun. Nothing big, flashy, crazy, mindblowing, etc, just a good romp through a spaceship with dinosaurs, a big game hunter, and Queen Nefertiti. What else do you need? :teehee:

Lestrade found his division I thought it was just like a giant adventure, maybe something to give us a break from the first episode? And this season doesn't really have much of a plotline (yet). It feels good to break away from that stuff. I loved it. :)

Yeah, every episode with the Ponds is going to count as a standalone episode. I have a theory about that... ;)
