"It's hard to understand the old secretive ones, that's why you have to hang out with the fun, merry, adventurous ones! Take Fili, Kili and Ori for instance!" Kalli said. The frown that was on her face now vanished and they snapped back to what the dwarves were doing. Fili offered some food to Kalli and she dug in. Then some of the dwarves started stomping their feet and clashing the forks and knives together. Laughing, Kalli joined in.

Aranyë left the dwarven festivities (which made her quite uncomfortable) and went and sat in one of Bilbo's armchairs.

As Bilbo passed by the table, he exclaimed, "Could you please stop that! You'll blunt the..." But Bofur cut him short. "Oh, did you hear that, lads! He says we'll blunt the knives!" Then they started singing: "Blunt the knives, bend the forks, smash the bottles and burn the corks, chip the glasses and crack the plates... That's what Bilbo Baggins hates! "Cut the cloth, tread on the fat, leave the bones on the bedroom mat, pour the milk on the pantry floor, SPLASH THE WINE ON EVERY DOOR! "Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl, pound them up with a thumping pole and when you're finished, if any are whole, SEND THEM DOWN THE HALL TO ROLL!" Then they all started laughing. (If I made any mistakes here, PM me and I'll edit  )

The song was enchanting, and Erestia enjoyed listening to it.

After almost nine years of living with the dwarves, Aranyë knew this song by heart. She sang along softly, embarrassed by her high pitched voice among so many low ones. But it was loud enough for Bilbo, who was seated nearby, to hear, and he turned around and stared at her with an extremely thoughtful expression on his face. Aranyë stopped singing and stared back unblinking, with wide, frightened eyes. Bilbo smiled at her and turned back around. Aranyë began to sing again.
