Lillian looked at Merry, Pippin and Sam. Their faces looked a bit more serious and stern than before. If she looked hard enough she could see a few wrinkles... She looked at Frodo once again, who took a deep breath. "It has to be told," he said. "Have a seat, Lil. It's going to be a long story," Pippin said, trying to sound cheerful. Lillian sat down and Frodo started the tale.

"It began a long time ago, when the Dark Lord Sauron forged the One Ring," Sam said. "So Mordor was real. Everything that was just children's tales were real?" Lillian said. Frodo averted his eyes. "Yes they were," Merry said. The four hobbits told the tale, mostly Sam. Frodo didn't say much. When they got to the part where Gollum bit the Ring off from Frodo's hand, Lillian had to hold in a gasp. She had to stop herself from cheering when Pippin told them that the Ring was destroyed and there was almost nothing to worry about anymore. "Except that old Sharkey. You see, he's been tearing the Shire apart for weeks and weeks. That's why we came here," Lillian burst out.

"We do," said Merry, who, smiling, gave Laurel a shortsword from Rohan. "Wow," Lillian said, eyes wide. She continued, "Am I correct by saying that this blade is from Rohan?" Merry nodded. Lillian liked to read and listen to books and stories that were about the realms outside of the Shire. "You have my sword," Lillian said. "Is this alright for a weapon?" she said, showing the hobbits her knife. "I'm afraid that won't work for a good fighter like you. Try this," Pippin said, showing his friend a Gondorian blade. "Thank you!" she exclaimed. "Let's raise the Shire!"

The mother timidly moved forward to take her crying infant, but one of the Meb stopped her. "Stay back." Laurel crept up behind Lillian and took the baby. Then, as the Men threatened the father, she slipped the baby to her mother and with a grateful look the mother slipped into the forest with her other children.
