So apparently someone decided to cobble together the hobbit movies so that it follows the book, AND it's only 4 hours long!! Some Tolkien fan is as much of a purist as I am!!! Im so excited!!

I can't see why not? People on the forum have linked videos to things like music videos using clips from the LotR movies, isn't that the same thing? The only issue I'd see is if the person was requesting money of course.

As for the copyright infringement it is not unless they are making moneynfrom it. There is literaly a law covering all sorts of Fan movie production, reproduction, fanfiction, fanwork of all kinds. (I've looked into it before) So As long as they are making money off of it there should be no legal issues.

So I just watched this yesterday and it was pretty good, considering what crap it was originally! There were a couple unnecessary cuts though: (SPOILER ALERT)

1. There was no "that's what Bilbo Baggins hates" which was in the book and I liked that scene!

2. They skipped the killing of the goblin king, which was also in the book. Furthermore, I think he said in the WordPress article that azog was supposed to show up after the goblin king died which would imply that the death of the king was the reason for his presence, which would have made complete sense! In reality, though, azog was introduced when the goblin king said he knew someone who would pay a pretty price for his head, and the king never died.

3. There was no pinecone scene with the wards and goblins, AND the eagles only showed up for like 2 shots in the botfa. First, any scene with eagles should be kept, am I right? Second, that's a pretty memorable scene in the book and was kind of the greater part of a chapter. Third, not having it means you go from goblin tunnels to Beorn's house which seems like a pretty big jump. I think that was a bad cut.

4. They skipped Fili and Kili's deaths! Now I understand how it would be hard to edit because of she who shall not be named, and they were kind of crappy death scenes, but then Fili and Kili don't show up really all through botfa. Also, when the dwarves are saying goodbye, you're randomly missing a few dwarves, and it's weird. Also, when I first read the books, I remember crying a lot over those two, and without their deaths, i just feel like something's missing, and it drives me insane.

That's pretty much all the things I had against it, which is A LOT less than the things I had against that trilogy *shudders*. Overall, I think the Tolkien Editor did a fantastic job, considering what he had to work with! Excellent work!

Wow... that would take a LOT of work to edit all that and make it come out good... especially skipping over those "unintended" additions of characters. Would certainly make Kili and Fili harder to fit in.

Jax, it was only 4 things (the rest was my reasons why), and 3 out of 4 are really easy to creally because they are 3 complete and sequences. Fili and Kili are understandable, but that caused a hole to be made for me.

Seems like a lot of work.... I guess people who know what they are doing it might be simpler. *shrugs*

Still have not got around to watching it.... it is hard to find that much time all at once... O_O

It's true. I watched 2 hours on a Friday night and 2 hours the next morning, which worked reasonably well. You might want to start downloading it now though. It takes a really ong time.

It is an awesome reason for not doing things! Mostly though, it's just because my younger siblings, who actually have time, decide to watch it, and I decide not to have self-control and go do homework. Priorities....
