Does anyone know what this outfit was used for? I mean you never see it, was it an early concept for his outfit?

I will go out on a limb and say... 'wearing' ? It looks like a basic casual Minas Tirith wear around the palace where he didn't have to appear so 'princly'. I like it.

I'm guessing from the glowy lighting its in Lothlorien. Plus there's a scene in the EE when the fellowship arrive in Lorien where Legolas and Gimli are in different costumes. One of the cast says on the commentary that they were early/alternate designs. I'm not sure if this was the case for Boromir too in that scene Legolas & Gimli's costumes were significantly different whilst this looks like his normal costume, minus some details. The pic is kinda blurry so it could be the lighting isn't picking up the details or it could be the black leather outfit referred to here.

Yeah I was just curious because I know that it was not used in any of the scenes. I have the EE and it was never used. I agree that it does look cool though.

It actually looks more like Aragorn's 'Strider' outfit only cleaner. Almost like a pre-production take where Sean Bean tried out for the part of Aragorn?

If I remember right, Viggo was a late addition to the cast. I think Stuart Townsend was first cast as Aragorn but it didn't work out. Sean, being the versatile actor that he is, may have filled in for the part as a trial before Viggo was brought on board. I'm going back to last century and all the discussion and speculation and leaked rumor about the movies that were being made.

That is really interesting! It's a cool look. I'm glad they went with Viggo Mortenson and not Stuart Townsend. With how much thought and input Viggo put into the character look, characteristics, and personality Aragorn would have been totally different.

I think they even tested David Wenhem as Aragorn as well. I read an interview with Viggo where he said that when he was contacted for the part, he hadn't read the books so he got the paperbacks and read it through, finishing when he got off the plane in New Zealand. It was a great casting choice, even though I think both Sean and David would have done well in the part. Trouble is if that were the case, who would have played Boromir and Faramir?

Exactly, I think those are 3 of the characters they nailed with the actors they got.

I personally think everyone fit their part to a T. The only ones I take issue with (Personal opinion) is Elijah wood and Liv Tyler. I would have changed them out.
The outfit would make a much more "clean look" for Aragorn if it was indeed for that prospect. I can see Boromir ( or Sean ) being a more "clean" looking version of Aragorn... i guess partially due to his role I am use to him in as Boromir and being royalty and all and dressing the clean warrior look. *shrugs*

I'm pretty sure the picture of him in Lothlorien where everyone randomly has a new set of clothes. It's probably because the ones they wore into Moria looked like crap, and Galadriel seems to have a habit of offering clothes to guests. At least that's what she did with Gandalf when he came back. It seems to be common courtesy in Middle-earth.

That would make sense... I guess it would be polite to offer new clothes to a group of wayward travelers that had nothing but near worn out rags to call their coverings.

The rest of the actors did the best they could with the screenplay they were given.Héalic wrote: I'm pretty sure the picture of him in Lothlorien where everyone randomly has a new set of clothes. But yeah, they did get fresh new clothing, or at least something while their usual wear was laundered, because if we put this onto a real scale, they had to STINK! It was a long road from Rivendell.
