Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" played at the Yard House a little while ago. It reminded me of this, my favorite song of his. What a beautiful voice and the music! But a sad song...

LOVE Gordon Lightfoot........that man can tell a story, to be sure! (wistful)
Another bard and one of my favorites.........he might not be the most "beautiful" fellow on the planet, but his heart and songs never fail to make me catch my breath.

I finally got to see Neil Young live in 2009, and again in 2013. I had tickets for other shows, one in the 70's and one in the 80's, and one I got sick and couldn't go, and the other he got sick and had to cancel. He put on a mean rock show in 2013! I always loved this BBC show of him in his early solo days. Here he plays a "new" song...

Hanasian, I'll accept the blame! I adore, adore, ADORE Neil Young and I will never forget seeing him in Columbia, Maryland at an outdoor venue. It was the most relaxed event I ever attended and he was so, so soulful.
When we went back to the hotel, we discovered that he had been booked at the same place and his tour bus was waiting for him to wind up his after-concert party (or, whatever) and head to the next gig. I wanted to wait to meet him, but I was convinced otherwise. I wish that I had waited. (sigh)
He's one of the best contemporary bards I can think of. He tells a story from his heart.

It's ANZAC Day today, and I watched and listened to two songs on youtube that really chokes me up. The discussion came out about the suicides of veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and how the casualty rate should count these men and women. A rather sad day, yet one that brought closure to my wife's family in 2014 when they were notified that her great uncle's remains had been identified in Fromelles France. He had been missing in battle on July 19 1916, registered dead by the Germans later in 1916 when his dog tag was returned by the German Red Cross.
And this song grips the heart as we send young men off to war still....
