Has anyone ever heard of a hurdy gurdy?!?! O_O
I found these things on youtube the other day and I am fascinated to no end by this instrument now! I want one SOOO bad but a good one costs like 4-5 thousand dollars!!! O_O

I would LOVE to get one! If I ever have the extra cash to spend on something I would seriously consider it, it's just a lot of money for a good one and I've been down the road of buying the cheap instruments... usually it's not worth doing I don't think.

Listened to a lot of different hurdy gurdys live around the Medieval Festival this weekend. The modern ones are quite intricate, but have mostly the same basics as the older ones. Some really good players too. The multi-band gathering at the end of the festival was quite interesting especially with four hurdy gurdys in the mix!

Yes, the newer ones like what Paty Gurdy uses look to be just that. Very neat, though! It would have been very neat to have seen them played in person.

Yes, it was quite cool. They did a bit of a demonstration where each hurdy gurdy player played theirs in different styles.

That would be really nice. I would love to see that in person eapecially if I was seriously considering forming out the money to get a good one for myself. They seem like such a diverse instrument with many possibilities on style.

This Patty Gurdy rendition of the Game of Thrones theme is quite good. You get most of the various sounds a hurdy gurdy makes on this, even the key clicks!

Check out this Organistrum, an early hurdy gurdy design dating back to the 10th century!
It was usually played by two people back in the day, with one turning the crank, and the other moving the keys.

Yeah, Eluveitie comes up on my youtube playlist a lot.
And they actually came down for an Australian tour a while back.
