As for plot going forward....I have a few story beats mapped out in my head. Just a broad arc, within which I hope to cavort.

Amarwen remains in Osgiliath...unhappy as she is, this leads her to form friendships (seeking solace and company as her duty and fate closes in around her). Some of those friendships are unlikely. Some of those friendships are mistakes.

She continues as best she can her relationship with Halvarin. This is fraught with peril.

I was toying with the notion of Valacar's death occuring during a particularly violent uptick in the city. Shaken and appalled, Aldamir sends his bride away to her home whilst his father cleans up to consolidate his early rule.

That never happens, of course, and Amarwen's father is compelled to return to Osgiliath just as open rebellion breaks out. It is there he will perish with Eldacar's eldest son.

That's the arc in the broadest sense that I have in mind for Amarwen.

All good - so I posted the showdown between Farien and Amarwen. Farien, older, ran rings around the younger Amarwen. Though the two are at odds now, I expect that Farien will prove to be something of a mentor for Amarwen. Instrumental in developing the skills that Amarwen will go on to depend upon during the Kinstrife.

I also posted, separately, a showdown between Helda and Aldamir. The prince is in a tight spot...but as his mother's son, not so tight that he can't find some wriggle room to save his conscience.

And a third post to capture an exchange between Therald and Halvarin.

My next post will be Farien confronting Calimir over Almara - probs in an hour or so.

Farien will threaten Calimir's son if he attempts to use Almara to interfere. Calimir will threaten to expose the seedy truth concerning Almara's parentage if Farien harms Halvarin.

Will that work as far as you are concerned, Jax?

If so, and after that, my post following the show down between one set of frenemies will be a discussion between Therald and Calimir. In a bid to protect his son, he will alert Therald to the possibility that their children are substantially more than mere childhood companions.

Double posting there and here! Apologies it took so long to get that portion of the arc done, folks.

All up to date - Farien and Calimir have had their face off; Aldamir has informed Amarwen of the dispensation he has won. Calimir and Therald have also had their chat.

I think it's early evening by now.

Moving forward...I'm thinking of posting an exchange at dinner between Amarwen and various members of the royal family - Vinyarion still AWOL presumably with Halvarin. Farien is still furious and what she says will prompt Amarwen to seek Rie-Zunic out once again.

In doing so, she comes face to face with the Captain of the Guard who is determined to shake the truth free with a visit to the cells to visit the 3 men arrested for the attack.
