James politely looked away, off to the lake. It annoyed him a little, being the only Marauder (well. Aside from Peter, that is.) without a girl. He was the most sought-after boy in the school (well. Aside from Sirius, that is.) and here he was, fawning over the one girl who wouldn't have him. He sighed. If anything, that was the most depressing thing in his entire school-life (well. Aside from Snape).

At least James Potter was never one to give up.

He glanced at Lily, figuring that he'd been enough of an idiot for the day -- in front of her, at least. He was sixteen, for heaven's sake! Had to grow up some time, right? Else, he'd never really catch Lily's eye.

Of course, one can't quite take all of the mischief out of a Marauder. Maybe only for a very little while.

"You lot done yet?" he asked, grinning, still facing away.

Danielle walked until they reached the Great Hall. She sat down and heard a group of girls whispering - she knew it was about her, but she didn't care. Every other girl in the school had a thing for Sirius, and there was bound to be jealousy towards her. She rolled her eyes and scooped up some mashed potatoes.

Sirius sat down next to James and Danielle and got some roast beef, potatoes, a couple of rolls, and a large glass of pumpkin juice.
"Cheers!" He said and took a sip.

With one regretful look back at Lily, James followed after the others, tilting his goblet in salutation before taking a sip himself. Setting it down with a sigh, he studied his plate for a moment before eating. He didn't really mind what was on it. He just ate it. It was all good anyway.

After a moment, he paused, hazel eyes staring down at the table before flickering to Sirius. "Hey, mate?" he asked quietly, frowning slightly as he thought a moment. "What is it about me that Evans doesn't like, eh? I don't smell like the dungeons or something, do I?"

As if to prove his point, James sat up a little, pinched the front of his uniform, and sniffed. Clean. The smell of fireworks would fade eventually, he reasoned.

He inwardly groaned. He'd never understand girls, really.

Danielle laughed and rolled her eyes. He could be such a goofball sometimes. She got a bit of Pumpkin juice, some ham, and one roll. "Anyway I heard Snivellus is going to be in Hogsmeade this weekend," she said venomously. She bit off a bit of her roll. "Honestly, if he approaches me one more time, I'm going to knock the living daylights out of him myself-"

"And it would be about time," she heard someone mutter. She looked up, but no one showed any signs of having said it.
