					| I keep reading over the ROTK appendices & just keep finding great stuff. And now I have become intrigued with this guy named Helm Hammerhand a king of Rohan. This may be the toughest guy I have read about of all. The way he would sound his horn & then kill many enemy troops with his bare hands is just awesome. They could do a movie on this guy alone imo.
The appendices say that after Helm was found standing frozen it was said his horn could still be heard at times & Helm as a wraith would move through enemy troops & kill them with fear....so IF Helm had become a wraith I am suprised that Sauron would not have recruited Helm for his army. And if Sauron was unsuccessful then there would be mention of Helm going to rest with his forefathers.......maybe I am overthinking it but it just seems that such a warrior like Helm was that he deserved an ending good or bad.

					| It was in the Appendices at the end of Return of the King. He died by freezing to death in the great winter of third age 2758-59 when an invasion from Dunland led by Wulf, a mixed-blood prince of northwestern Rohan invaded while Rohan's armies were off south assisting Gondor in repelling an invasion from Umbar. Helm Hammerhand was the last of the First Line of the Kings of Rohan. Fvck Off Spambots!_________________

Ps. Did Helm built the Helm's Deep?

					| I believe the fortress itself was built by Gondor before the Rohirrim had come from Rhovanion. The tower with the Horn may have been built by Helm, though I'm not sire where the reference to this is. I think it is mentioned in the appendices somewhere. I too need to re-read the Appendices again. Fvck Off Spambots!_________________

I think maybe Helm, having died in the winter siege, did not rest, and the sounding of the horn at Helms Deep was a summons for him to return and fight? Just fanciful speculation on my part...

					| Was reading up on Helm Hammerhand and it is interesting what the various resources say. From Tolkien Gateway:

Quote: Helm Hammerhand (Third Age 2691 – 2759, aged 68 years) was the ninth King of Rohan and last King of the first line.
Helm became King at the death of his father Gram, during a time of crisis. His father had already fought open warfare with the Dunlendings, who operated from the captured fortress of Isengard.

In T.A. 2754 a man named Freca, a Dunlending with Rohirric blood planned to have his son, Wulf, marry the daughter of Helm. Freca rode to Edoras with a great force of men, planning to threaten the King to comply with his demands, but Helm Hammerhand smote him with his fist and Freca died soon thereafter. Because of his great strength Helm was known as Hammerhand.

The men of Freca left Edoras, but in 2758 they returned with a great force of Dunlendings, reinforced by enemies of Gondor who had landed in the south. Under the leadership of Wulf they overran Rohan; Helm fought them at the Crossings of Isen but lost and withdrew into the Suthburg and there endured a long siege.

Helm held the fortress during the Long Winter. He blew his great war-horn, and broke through the Dunlending ranks, clad in white, stalking men like a snow-troll slaying them with his bare hands. However, his sons Haleth and Háma were slain and Helm grew gaunt because of grief and famine; still his horn would fill the Dunlendings with fear each time it was heard. During one of his night sorties Helm died, apparently from famine and cold; his body was discovered frozen in the snow still standing and ready to fight.

He was succeeded by his nephew Fréaláf Hildeson, who defeated the Dunlendings.

There was a belief that his horn was sometimes heard in the Deep and that his wraith still wandered through Rohan, and defended the keep that would be renamed the Hornburg.

The only mention of the daughter of Helm is as a marriage trophy for the Dunlander Wulf. Did she perish? Who knows?

Anyway, this leads me to a period in history of Middle Earth... The Long Winter. As Rohan battled the Dunlandings, Gondor was attacked along the coast by the Corsairs of Umbar and the Haradrim.

					| Lol, yeah, not putting any faith or expectations on that one. After ROP honestly, it's not worth worrying about.
Loving the Helm Hammerhand lore tho! I feel like that section of the lore is really undervalued.
Oh, is that why you posted about War of the Rohirrim? Is Helm in it??
Still wouldn't put much stock in it, but it could be an interesting thought?

Yeah, its about the whole Rohan Dunlanding rivalry and the Long Winter. It's in amine style. Like Rings of Power, I will wait and pass judgement after I see it. I gave Rings of Power an overall 'C' grade. There were some things I really liked, but the writing and the continuity was awful. I found it was better as an 8 episode bingewatch. The weekly episode format didn't do it any favors.

					| Helm Hammerhand was a brave and strong king. He fought with his bare hands to protect his people. His story shows courage and never giving up.
