Elizabeth whispered, "There's someone following us...."

Miranda held her breath and listened. She could have sworn she heard someone...she looked over at Elizabeth and stood completely still.

Elizabeth stood completly still and she sighed as she heard an all-too familar British voice.

Miranda cursed in her mind and breathed slowly; if she sighed or breathed too quickly, she'd have a cough attack. She suddenly felt someone grab her elbow and put a hand over her mouth.

ELizabeth's arms were suddenly pulled back, and she yelped in pain since her shoulder still hurt. She saw Wilkins come into the clearing.

"When will you learn?" he asked coldly. "Take them away!" He noticed that Miranda was coughing, and said, "Lock her in a seperate chamber - the darkest, coldest, dampest one you can find."

She started struggling against the Dragoons, trying to get free. Her brown eyes blazed with hate for Wilkins.

Wilkins looked at Elizabeth. "Her too," he said, "Lock her away from the others...they can be put into the same chamber."

Miranda was shoved into a dark, damp cell and accidentally hit the brick wall. She heard the slam of the gate and the click of the lock; she slid down onto the ground and coughed. She knew it was probably hopeless, that she might die this way.....

But there was always a way.

She heard a familiar voice coming from the cell next to her. "Mr. Martin?" she asked. She coughed.

"Miranda! How are you feeling?" he whispered.

She coughed harder than ever. "Cold..." she said. She cleared her throat. "Exhausted...and in pain..." She leaned her head against the brick wall.

Elizabeth winced as she was thrown in after Miranda. She sighed and heard her fiancee. "Elizabeth?"

"Will.." she murmured tiredly.

Miranda coughed for what seemed like eternity; the dampness of the cell was irritating her lungs. Her eyes began to water, and her lungs to ache.

"Randa?" asked a voice.

She turned. "Gabriel?" she whispered. She coughed. "Where's Elizabeth?"

[Remember, they're in seperate cells....Elizabeth in one, Miranda in another, and the rest in the same one...I guess we're on either side of them...]

Gabriel replied. "On the other side of our cell..."

The cell that Elizabeth was slightly dryer than Miranda's, but still damp, so now she was getting colder.

Miranda nodded. "I'm so tired.." she whispered, "And cold..." It was true; she had worn no coat; only a dress with long but thin sleeves. She shivered in spite of herself. "I hope we can get out of here..." she said.

Elizabeth closed her eyes as she began shivering. Her teeth bean to chatter, and she took her cape and wrapped it around herself.

Miranda brought her knees to her chest and crossed her arms over it. She leaned her forehead against the wall seperating the two cells and fell asleep. When she woke up, she heard whispering voices.

Elizabeth knew she had a fever by now, and she heard Cornwallis and the doctor's voices. "The two women need tended to the most." he said.

Miranda's mind was too tired to function. She closed her eyes and felt her breathing slow. She faintly felt a cold hand on her head, then voices speaking more quickly, more urgently. Little did she know that she was lucky to have survived the night.

"You must release her," said a voice, "Her condition is very serious - she could die in here."
