I love Rohan and everything about it. They are very Viking to me in so many ways. I think that's why I connected so much with them from the very first time I read the book.

Being Scandinavian myself, and also a fan of Scandinavian (as well as Celtic) folklore the Rohan culture was always so easy to relate to. They seem very much real, like taken straight out of history. Their huts and halls are very much like what our own used to look like, and I love the whole idea that their culture is based upon their love of horses.

Oh - you're Scandinavian? That's so interesting!!! That's nice how you can relate to the Rohan culture! Since Rohan's culture is based on horses - what about Scandinavians? Do they also excel in horse-related things?

No not the horse-part, but they are very much like vikings on horses. So if you'd exchange the horses for boats you would get the Scandinavian culture.

Hello , I too like the people of Rohan. They are very down-to-earth. I also love the way they care for their horses and love their land. They are very valiant people as well. Well, that's it.
~Namarie nin Mellon ( can someone tell me what the plural word for
friends is? - I just learned this sindarin phrase
from a fellow member. I am just learning Quenya.
Forgive me for my mistakes )

I miss the culture that was centraled around horses, but technology has replaced them, that would be cool if there was such a society still today

Ha! I looked it up, and the horse I was thinking of is called Felaróf.
His rider is named Eorl, and that probably confused me.
But Felarof, if I understand correctly, is the first of shadowfax's kind, the first of the Mearas. He's all white, where shadowfax is grey.

I love Rohan! I'm a "cowgirl" person myself, so I was immediately drawn to the horse culture. The freedom and wildness of the country really clicks with me, as well. Rohan is definately my favorite region of Middle-earth.
