His throat tightened, and his finger stopped lining the rim of his cup. Figuring that the sketch of himself was outdated and old, he could even risk being polite. But by the looks of this man, he could have been a soldier..anyone working undercover. He paused before clearing his throat slightly. " Mhm." He answered gutterely, now leaning back against the booth at which he sat. It was incredibly dark in the alcove, seeing as Orien had refused to light candle that sat neglected on the middle of the table. The fire from the other side of the room cast it's warm light in his eyes, and they glinted. He hoped that he'd seem nothing more than a weary, rugged, unshaved traveler to this stranger. Sighing through his nostrils, he picked up his goblet, took a deep drink from it.

*decides on Rumour, since no one looked at either of the bios* Here's my character....

Name: Rumour

Species: Shapeshifter

Occupation: Assassin, thief, mercenary, and pickpocket

Description: Has pale skin and long, dark auburn hair, along with completely jet black, reptilian eyes that have no whites and no pupils whatsoever. Usually wears supple black assassin's clothes that form to her almost slinky-like figure. Wears a black cloak and hood over it, hiding her face and mainly her eyes. Carries many weapons, but you don't know that 'till she's slit your throat with them. lol

Background: *please read bio on 'New Characters'**thank you, and sorry for being lazy*lol Has mainly animal-like instincts and is very feral-natured. Also has human emotions but doesn't use them often. lol

hey, Luinnar. join when you can :)

Knyn's own brooding nature permitted him little idle talk, and so he decided to go straight to the point. He smiled encouragingly - a mirthless gesture hidden in the shadows of his hood - and lifted his wine glass to a mock toast.

"What's this about a missing prince...? Heard any interesting news lately?"

A small black cat leaps unobtrusively through an open window in the back and pads out into the common room of the tavern. With a small miaow, it curls up on a windowsill near the two hooded and cloaked men, its jet black eyes blinking slowly.

Knyn saw the cat out of the corner of his eye. He proceeded to shoo it away, then stopped. There was something uncanny about this feline, something he couldn't quite name....

Suddenly he heard a roar and bloodcurdling screams coming from outside the tavern. The minstrels abruptly halted their playing, staring about in bewilderment. Half the customers at the tavern stood and peered outside. The same half were two seconds later rooted to the ground, speechless with terror.

And then there was complete and utter chaos.

The barmaids shrieked, dove for the nearest cover. The roar rumbled again, driving the people to hysterics. The roar was followed by a whoosh, as of broad wings sweeping over the roof of the building.

The cat leaps to its feet, the hair on its back seeming to ripple, rather than stand on end, and then it jumps down and pads away.

A second later, a slender figure dressed in supple black riding leathers steps out of a doorway, with something glinting in one hand. The figure is female and has long auburn hair, pale skin, and jet black eyes, the same as the cat's. The female crouches slightly, listening to the commotion and watching everything alertly, seemingly unafraid.

Heart pounding, Knyn shoved past the startled civilians to get to the doorway. Outside, chaos dominated the streets. The smoke from the burning houses had drifted up, obscuring the sun. The clash of arms, the last screams of the dying, filled the blood-hazed air.

It was not a hoard of dragons, as he had suspected, but an army. Black-armored troops flung themselves in fury down the streets, howling and setting fire to everything in sight. The whooshing sound he'd heard had been of small, demonic creatures launched from catapults to land shrieking in the town square. Greatsword in hand, Knyn spun to find the demons pouring in through the back door of the tavern.

He was about to leap into the fray when he noticed a slim, cloaked figure blocking his way.

[ Gah, sorry guys, I've been away.]

Orien had no time to answer the man, for just as he was about to speak, ..something happened. Through the mixture of hair-raising screams, he heard glass breaking. He stood, wasting no time to find out what it was, and ran for the bar. The barkeep and all the other barmaids had disappeared. Sliding over the ale-slopped counter, he crouched behind the bar, unsheathing an oddly curved sword. In his obstinance for survival, he calculated that running away would get him killed quicker than staying and fighting.

He pulled the black cloth that was rapped around his neck up to the bridge of his nose, concealing his visage by a fraction, and studied from a barkeep's perspective the backside of the bar. Below his feet, there was a secret door, and in the shelves of the counter at his back there was to his delight...one stick of dynomite. He had placed it there long ago, and it was now coated with a thin layer of dust. He quickly tucked it inside his boot, and peered over the counter. The man he had sat with for a brief moment was making his way out the door, when an oddly familiar girl stood in his way..He watched for a few seconds, but immediately ducked down when a demon-like critter was hurled through a glass window. The seemingly small beast rolled over the top of the counter, and fell a good four feet to the wooden planks of the floor.

Knyn said bluntly, "Excuse me," before pushing the young woman out of the way. He launched himself off a table and right into the center of the battle. The diminutive creatures shrieked and were all over him at once. With one sweep of his greatsword he sent half of them flying. Another window shattered as two dozen more of them were catapulted inside.

It was hopeless! Knyn emitted a feral snarl and jumped back onto one of the tables to avoid being backed into a corner. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the bulk of the demons surging towards the man behind the bar. A cold sense of comprehension trickled through his mind. He shook off his bloodlust and stared.

They were after the man behind the counter.

" Ah bloody hell..." He murmered, standing up. Flinging off his cloak, he kicked a clustered group of the animals away, all of which were slammed against the wall and knocked unconcious. Why so many had come and so quickly, he had no idea, in fact the only hint of explanation that played out in his mind was Dimitri...Either him or the Warden at the prison, but even a simpleton man like that knew no evil such as this. He slashed in long powerful side-strokes against the crowd that bombarded him, and unsheathed a twin sword, lacerating one their throats in a clean swipe. He looked up at the man who was staring at him, then at the space behind him. Most of the demons had leapt over the counter and were advancing on him from each side.

Without a second thought, wrenched free from two of their grip's, and dove back over the counter to where the man stood. Grabbing his collar, he dragged Knyn over to a knocked down table, and quickly pulled him to a crouched position. He lit the the stick of dynomite from his boot, and cast it across the room, behind the bar-counter. ..Smirking inwardly from his thriftyness, he waited as he watched some pick the stick up and smell it stupidly, but his momentary joy was washed away..He didn't think of all the alcohol resting behind the counter and in the shelves.

" Go for that window!" He hollered, pushing Knyn up once again, and diving through the single paned glass window.

Knyn caught sight of the dynamite and threw himself out the window a split second before it exploded. He slammed himself against the street as splinters of wood and glass flew everywhere. Without hesitation he was back up. The only remains of the tavern were a few shards of splintered wood. He heard the hiss of steel through the air and jumped aside just as a blade sliced an inch away from his body. He feinted down, then swung his own greatsword up and cleanly chopped off his adversary's head.

Grabbing hold of his new ally, he ran.

He followed, seeing as he no other better ideas, and waited until they passed a small rundown alley. He pulled the man into the crevice, and put his hands on his knees, attempting to catch his breath. It was hard however, for his the cloth on his face made it nearly impossible to inhale at all. He had no other choice than to pull it down.

Gasping, he looked around the corner, seeing if they had a shorter time-limit depending on if anyone one of those creatures saw them.

" What is your name?" He asked gruffly, sheathing one of his swords.

Knyn peered both ways down the street. He was barely winded, but seeing that his companion was trying to catch his breath through the cloth over his nose he edged into an empty warehouse and barred the door. He kept vigil at the window, lowering his greatsword but not sheathing it.

"Knyn," he replied, glancing over at the other briefly. "And yours?"

(Ahhhhh!!!... Slow down!!... *groans*)

Rumour, the female figure, snarls as she's shoved aside. She dispatches one of the demon-creatures with a thrust to the throat, using the dirk that appeared in her hand. She sees the two men she was watching dive out the window as the dynamite is thrown. Suddenly she disappears, gone completely into thin air.

A moment or two later a small black cat leaps through the window of the warehouse and pads over to the two men, its completely black eyes blinking slowly.

He saw no winning side to this, and refused to lie. Averting his gaze out one of the windows, he replied nonchalantly. " Orien."

[ Sorry, I had to eat dinner so it's shorter. x_x ]

Knyn raised an eyebrow. "Orien? Sounds familiar. You don't happen to be that traitor prince they were looking for do you?"

Out of the corner of his eye he glimpsed the black cat again. It blinked slowly, its intelligent eyes scanning the room. Whatever it was, that was no common cat. Knyn turned away from it, apparently preoccupied with something else. In one fluid motion he spun around, grabbed the cat by the scruff of the neck, and held it to the light. He pointed the tip of his dagger to its throat.

"All right. Who's your master?"
