As the guards entered the inn, they heard at first what seemed to be a bawl taking place. They quickly exchanged glances before a drunk lurched forward and pointed angrily at the door of the inn.

"'ey! That bstard farmer tricked me! There's nothing in my bag!"

In considerable alarm the guards peered inside their own money bags to find that every piece of steel they thought they owned was gone.

--------

The rattle of armor behind them made Ghyreian turn around. What seemed like a mob from the inn was after them.

"Witch!" the guards shouted, pointing a quivering finger at Edwin. "Burn him at the stake!"

"Let`s make a run for it!"

Edwin turned to a side alley and rode into the end of it with the other on his heels, he turned and went forward always losing some of the mob. He looked back as they arrived at the dock, he looked around tired of the chase and pointed at a quiet inn that seemed to have few visitors. It was a small inn, but should do as a hideout for a while he thought, but no. An inn was too obvious, Edwin lead them to a storage of some sort. There was no light except the other door at the end of the room leading up to a second floor. Edwin closed the door listening, he heard shouts, but tired and disappointed.

"I think we are safe here for a while... lets follow that light out.."

Ghyreian peered out the window to the docks outside. There was only the sound of rats skittering across the planks and the black waters lapping up on the hulls of the ships. She nodded at Edwin, her hand underneath her gray cloak creeping down to her spell components.

They walked upstairs arriving into a store, luckily it seemed that no one was present at the moment and they could freely exit out the other way. Edwin looked around the corners on the streets without seeing any trace of the chasers.

"I think we are in the clear now... and since we are in the docks why don`t we get that trip of ours shall we?"

They walked past few ships that seemed big, but not fast as Edwin thought that to be what they needed until he caught sight of a smaller and slightly sturdy ship with the front carved into a dragons head or at least reminding it.

"I think that ship should suit our purposes... what do you think?"

"Hey! What are you two doing out here near my ship?" An old man came hobbling towards them, leaning heavily on his cane and smoking a pipe. "That's my ship!" he said again indignantly.

"Your ship?" Ghyreian said, raising a delicate eyebrow.

"That's right!" The old man came to a stop a few steps away from them, swaying slightly on his cane. He gazed at the ship fondly. "Her name's the Platinum Dragon. Named after Paladine, she is. But then again, I don't suppose you young people know who Paladine is, do you?" He squinted up at the mages, seemingly oblivious to the fact that Ghyreian's cloak had slipped during the chase and her black robes now stood out in sharp contrast against the shabby gray of her cloak.

"An elf, are you? Traveling in the company of a young man. War makes strange alliances, it does." He went up the ship and patted its hull with affection. "In my young days I could sail her to Palanthas and back," he murmured. "She's in a bit of a disrepair now, but if you two want her and can make good use of her, I'd gladly lend her to you."

Edwin looked at the old man in confusion, but couldn`t help smiling at the same time.

"Lend it to us? How much do I have to pay?"

"Nothing..."

"Wha..?"

"Just get on the ship and go!"

Edwin looked at Ghyreian with a grin.

The old man chuckled to himself, as if he'd made a merry joke. "My name's old Wevar. Speaking of prices..."

Ghyreian tensed.

"The only price you'll have to pay is to join me for some midnight tea, up in my cottage." He gazed at them ruefully, a wistful expression clouding his wrinkled face. "One does get lonely living up there."

"Then we shall go if that is the price and I wouldn`t mind..."

Edwin looked at Ghyreian with a warning look as the old man began to lead them to his gottage, they walked trough a small area of poor looking buildings and finally the old man entered his house. Edwin looked around the house, it seemed quite simple, but cosy. They sat down to a table, the old man gazed them with a smile.

"So how did you end up together?"

The old man asked with a cunning look on his face.

"We met at Wayreth," Ghyreian said bluntly, accepting the tea that Wevar handed her with reluctant grace. Wevar poured another cup and handed it to Edwin. "Is that so? And what do you two happen to be doing here?"

"What is this, an interrogation?" Ghyreian asked dryly.

The old man seemed truly offended. The look of cunning slipped from his face and he suddenly seemed weary and sorry to have spoken so rashly.

"I'm sorry, my dear," he said gently, and even had the audacity to pat her hand. "Curiousity, nothing more. Living here alone... I don't see people much, you know."

Edwin drank some of the tea and coughed slightly.

"For each their own path... I myself never felt lonely on my trave.."

"But you sure would have wanted company?"

The old man quickly interfered, Edwin went silent and drank some of his tea again staring at the old man.

"Perhaps..."

Edwin finally muttered out of his mouth.

"What about you lady?"

Ghyreian snorted. "I've been a loner all my life, and I will die one. But if it pleases your romantic notions...." She was growing tired of idle talk with this old windpipe. Sitting up and putting her tea down, she said briskly, "You don't happen to have a crew at your disposal do you?"

"Me?" Wevar laughed. "Paladine, no! It's been years and years since I was captain of my ship!"

"Do you know where we can hire one?" Ghyreian persisted.

Wevar tapped his temple with one knarled finger. His forhead wrinkled in thought. "Now that you mention it, there are a few sailors on the other side of town. Back at the south side, where the warehouses are. They used to frequent an old inn called 'The Ship's Lass.'" He scoffed. "Stupid name for an inn, if you ask me. I haven't left the docks in years, and it might have been torn down."

"They don't happen to mind being employed under mages do they?" she said flatly.

Wevar chuckled at his own joke. "Oh, I don't think they'll mind. In fact..." His chuckle became a howl of laughter. Startled, Ghyreian drew back and exchanged an alarmed glance with Edwin.

"In fact..." Wevar chortled. "I don't think they'll be intimidated by you at all!"

[do you mind if the 'sailors' turn out to be minotaurs?]

(soory, but I don`t mind.... about the minotaurs)

"You gotta be kidding me..."

Edwin whispered with laughter, but a hint of respect in his voice since these `sailors` were actually minotaurs. Edwin stepped into the inn, there was no other customers there and the bar keeper seemed to be behind his desk in case the minotaurs decided to fight each others. Edwin looked at Ghyreian.

"Are we this desperate?"

Ghyreian eyed the minotaurs, half a dozen of them who were wrestling eachother to the ground, with a raised eyebrow. The sheer weight of them were breaking the floorboards. She cast another glance at the small innkeeper, quivering behind the counter.

"We were desperate the moment we decided to go chasing after a green dragon alone, Edwin," she sighed, and readied her sleep spell.

Edwin smiled.

"I guess so..."

Ghyreian cast her spell and the minotaurs fell asleep, Edwin headed past the sleeping minotaurs and had to rase his feet not to wake them up until he made it to the counter on, which he leaned. He looked at Ghyreian.

"Wake one up and ask him about if they are interested..."

At the sight of being assaulted by a Red Robed wizard, the innkeeper shrieked and grabbed a pot from the stove, hurling it at Edwin's head. Ghyreian chuckled to herself until another piece of pottery came zooming at her chest. With an exclamation she leapt sideways. Recovering from the indignity of being attacked by a diminutive innkeeper, she harnessed a fireball to kill the man.
