Miranda drummed her fingers nervously on the ground, and accidentally let off the pistol. She screamed, but Gabriel clapped his hand over her mouth and quickly hissed something in her ear. She was lucky that it was pointing the other way.

Tavington turned his head when he heard a gunshot. "Take care of her...I'll get the others." he told Wilkins before heading to where the gunshot had come from.

"Go," hissed Miranda. They ran into the forest, Miranda picking up the pistol and heading off a different way.
Wilkins walked straight up to Elizabeth and pointed the pistol at her head, a mad gleam in his eye.

Elizabeth didn't move, but she stared at Wilkins, her brown eyes seemingly both angry and impassive.
Tavington came out, and his eyes narrowed when he saw Miranda's figure.

Miranda stared Tavington right in the eye, raised her pistol, and shot him twice in the heart as he stepped toward her.

Miranda dropped her pistol as she felt a terrible pain shoot through her. She froze. As Tavington fell over, dead, she stood frozen - afraid to move for fear of pain.

Miranda closed her eyes, feeling them go cold. She could hear running footsteps, but didn't bother trying to go to them. It was all over...
Wilkins looked at Elizabeth, then said, "Come with me." He grabbed her elbow and shoved her to the window. "Look at your friend." He was anxious to see her reaction to her dying friend.

Miranda felt Gabriel's strong arms wrap around her, and leaned her forehead on his shoulder.
Wilkins narrowed his eyes as he saw the men running toward Miranda, and pointed his gun at them. He shot, but missed, and used up the only shot in his pistol.

Elizabeth took his discraction to her advantage, and she suddenly drove her elbow into his stomach. But while doing that she accidently knocked her knife and gun out of her belt.

Wilkins bent over when she elbowed him, but dove for her gun and pointed it at her face. "I swear," he said, "I'll do it."
Miranda opened her eyes to look at Gabriel, then closed them again - her breathing was slow. "I'm sorry," she managed to whisper.
