Ben picked her up and carried her to the woman's house. When they had set her down on a bed, he inquired after Miranda.
"She's badly hurt," she said, "But since I got to her quickly, she should be fine, if it is the Lord's will."
Miranda woke up two days later to see Gabriel asleep on a chair by her bedside. "Gabriel?" she asked sleepily. She winced and clutched her stomach.
