*smiles* Hello, everyone. Just thought I'd pop into this thread, as Pirates is definitely my favourite movie to date, along with the LotR trilogy, of course; I'm sure it's all the same for you darlings.

Anyway, I've just been reading through, and thought I could add my two cents worth? I do warn you that I may be repeating a few things already discussed in this thread... as well as perhaps spoilers.

Oh yes. And I tend to rant, too.

It is definitely confirmed that there will be a trilogy for Pirates of the Caribbean, as both sequels are being shot simultaneously, quite akin to the Matrix and LotR, of course. From what I've seen from the set regarding the second movie, it looks to be in good shape, and seems like it won't fall down that distressing route that most Disney sequels seem to take. You know the type - all those sequels that bombed, that Disney should have left at the first movie. But apparently, the second Pirates movie looks like it won't be failing fans any time soon.

The plot isn't too shaky at all, and we've Ted and Terry to thank for that, as they are positively brilliant writers. The storyline is, as expected, different from the first movie, but aspects of the first movie were woven into the second's plot. "Everything we talked about in the first movie is referred to and embellished on in the second and third," says producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Such things being Jack's compass, his run-in with cannibals ("And then they made me their chief."), to name a few. And apparently our dear Ragetti and Pintel make a come-back, and they seem to be on the right side this time. Commodore Norrington becomes much more lovely and scruffy (I do adore James as much as I adore Jack), and confronted by, rumour has it, a man of the East India Trading Company, whose supposed name is Lord Cutler Beckett; he appears in the trailer wearing an orange military coat with the line, "Jack Sparrow is a dying breed..." His position as Commodore of the Navy might be threatened by this man, perhaps due to the consequences of his actions in the last movie, where he "afford[ed] to give him one day's head start." And since Jack is clearly alive and well (save for the debt with Jones) in the next movie, we can assume that Norrington was unable to catch him.

Will and Elizabeth clearly get arrested before their wedding, as speculation has it that they're taken away before the rings could be exchanged. It's been rumoured that one can see Will Turner with a cord of some sort around his neck throughout the movie, with the rings hanging from it; it is said that Elizabeth slips him the rings before they're taken away. Rumours also state that Jack's compass no longer works for him under the thought that it only points to the object of one's desire; Jack had already located the Isle de Muerta, and fans speculate that Elizabeth uses the compass to find Will (while dressed as a boy, as many know).

Regarding the debt Jack owes to Davy Jones, it's believed (I've used that term so many times already... *headdesk*) that it resulted over a game of Liar's Dice. Long story made short, Jack may have lost the game, and currently owes his soul to Jones, unless he somehow redeems himself. Bill Nighy, in a recent interview, also stated that Jones was "so wounded from love he literally tore his heart out and stuck it in a locker deep in the sea so he never has to feel again." The Chest in the trailer is widely believed (rah!) to be the legendary Davy Jones' Locker, which might contain the very torn-out heart in question. In a video clip recently aired on Disney's Movie Surfers, a very short clip shows Will Turner on the beach, crying out, "Get the Chest!"

Additionally, in the trailer, there are mysterious swordfighters shown in quick flashes -- in the shot of Jack walking into an open grave, behind him, on the roof of the crumbling church, are two swordfighters. Near the end of the trailer, in the quick flashes of scenes, there are two sillhouetted swordfighters. Also, again near the end of the trailer, during the wide shot on a beach -- again, the swordighters! Rumour? That they are two different pairs: Jack and Will; Will and Norrington. From pictures from the set, it's been assumed that Elizabeth will be in a sort of barfight involving two swords. Perhaps we will be returning to Tortuga.

Bootstrap Bill (Stellan Skarsgard) has returned, and is in the trailer with the line, "You'll never talk your way out of this one," directed at Jack. He looks very much like he's been underwater for some 10 years -- pale green, dripping, and I do believe there were barnacles and seaweed somewhere. It's rumoured that Bootstrap serves on the Flying Dutchman, since the crew of the Dutchman are said to become "one with the sea" the longer they stay onboard; a rumour which accurately explains Jones' appearance with a crab claw and tentacle-beard.

I'm terribly sorry to have rambled on like this... and I apologize if I've simply repeated what might have already been said.

But I will add more to this as soon as my father returns from the set in the Caribbean, as well as confirmation on our tickets to the premiere in July. *blushes* I hope it's pulled through -- he's mentioned going to the cast party a few times as well.

Question for those in the POTC 2 know: in the trailer I saw the part where something comes out of the water and couldn't figure out what it was. Then I came across this high-res pic, and it made me even more curious as to what it was. Anyone know? oh, and here's the picture.:

Oh, and Shieldmaiden, I mentioned that in my ridiculously long post earlier; Davy Jones' crew members become "one with the sea" the longer they stay on board, so it's a very high possiblity that those two, erm, things (pufferfish and hammerhead shark) are crew members on the Flying Dutchman.

And one new photograph of our lovely Jack with a, erm, less-than-lovely Bootstrap Bill, I'm thinking. If not Bill, then maybe another one of Jones' crew members, but I don't think Jack would react that way to just some random crew member. Bill and Jack were friends (how close, who knows?), from what we can gather from the first movie, so this might be a reunion scene from the second film.

Yeah...sorry...randomness...anyway, I'm really not dead! My internet has been stupid for the past week (pure torture, I assure you), and I haven't been able to get on at all! I've watched POTC four times in this past week out of sheer boredom, and made 660 screencaps of the actual movie, plus 115 of the deleted scenes...very bored, to say the least.
Wonderful pics, everyone, and many thanks. I swear, the one week I'm out, all the good pics hit the internet. Typical...
