Thanks for the comments Gilraen!
Okay, I fixed egghead-Gerard so now his head seems to make more sense. =P And Kitoky, the collar is actually as smooth as possible. I tried smoothing it but that's as smooth as it'll go, my camera just picks up everything. =P I'm adding the edit and replaced it in the previous entry.

These are absolutely fabulous! How do you shade so well? What materials do you use?

THANK YOU! I use DerWent Graphite Pencils and Smooth Bristol Paper. It just takes a great deal of patience and practice. Try to create the shades with smooth close strokes of the same intensity. Then you can use whatever materials you choose to blend (i.e. cotton swab), although I must say blended stuff doesn't fare too well with scanners.

Hey kids, I'm back. I can't help double-posting but there wasn't much else to do. I have a new WIP (work in progress) of my latest drawing for you! It's my first attempt at colored pencil, so it's been going a little slow, still figuring it out. I know it looks a little scratchy, maybe that's the scanner, but I will try to smooth it out in some areas, like between the eyebrows. Thanks for looking!
Twippo

Argh. Amazing talent. SO jealous. How can you work on something like that? Do you keep going for hours or do you tend to have some sort of inspiration?

I often just work on little parts over time. For instance, for this drawing it took me three whole weeks, but I only worked for three days. :B Odd. Sometimes I would just leave it alone in my sketchbook, and times I would just take it out and look at it. It's a bit daunting to start working again on a drawing after you've stopped, especially in a medium as final as colored pencil. For some reason, colored pencil doesn't completely come off, so anything that goes on the paper stays on. And this is also my first colored pencil drawing, so it was all experimental. One day you'd be like, "Hmm, I wonder what colors I could mix to get that one?" or "What could I do to bring the lips out more?" Finally I suppose I mustered up the bravery to continue the drawing two weeks later (I suppose you could say I suddenly became inspired to begin working on it again), and here it is!
As for inspiration, it's little things in everyday life that inspire me to keep on drawing, keep on living. It might be that meaningful song on the radio you heard, a moving film you've recently seen, or a simple concept, like color and light. I'm fascinated by color and light by the way. It's so difficult to express what I'm thinking, but it seems to come to me naturally when I'm in that mindset.

Ooo, that's great advice, Twippo. I hope to see more from you. And I want to see if I can somehow find inspiration in every day life as well.
