I don't know if ther was a single word to describe it, but essentially it was pretty yucky. The trees were torn down, and nasty brick houses were put up. I think there was somthing about a tower (I think it replaced the mill) that polluted the river
It was the men of Saurumon that did it. While the rangers were away fighting the war (which didn't happen in the movie. Grrrr.) Saurumon's men came and tried to "help" the hobbits. They said they were collecting the food for redistrabution, but they really kept most of it. There were a lot of laws.

When and why was the name of Minas Anor changed to Minas Tirith?

Umm . . i dunno when, but it was changed to Minas Tirith becuase it means "Tower of the Guard" and it was guarding the way into Middle Earth from Mordor. *frowns* I so know this!
Edit - I think it was after Morgoth's deafeat, or maybe after Sauron's defeat. ( the first time) No, yes, it was after the fall of Gondolin and Doriath, i think . . . *wails* i donm't know!

Edit - WOOT! I found it! better late than never . . .
it was after the line of Meneldil, Son of Anarion failed and the Tree withered and Minas Ithil became Minas Morgul, Tower of Sorcery.  I'm so good. I got it! woot! _________________ I LOVE JONHHY DEPP!

He was trying to kill Faramir, whom he prussumed dead, by burning him along with himself, but when Galndalf saved Farimar from his death he told the guard to shut the door, and Denethor was cremated,burned, alive.
