@Eä: Yes, probably, but that would mean, that they're not absolutely immortal. Or perhaps they don't die but lose their strength or something. Tolkien said there are only two ways an elf can die:
1) He's slain
2) He dies of grief
He never wrote anything about eating and starving, did he?

I think that if vampires dont eat they will just get weaker and weaker until they die.

If an elf experiences something so sad that he might die from grief I don't think he would eat anyway, so the not eating would be a part of the grief thus helping to weaken his spirit until it gave up.
I don't think elves simply quit eating... I mean they have a perfect body already, ever heard of an anoretic elf??
However, I'm still left with the question of why vamps are immortal in the first place.
(No, I didn't join the club... my excuse is that I wouldn't be able to dedicate the time I wanted to, to be a member... If people start giving me wierd looks for not being a member, I'll consider it... joining pro forma so I still can post when I want!! *evil snigger*)

Possible. About Vampires:
I think they don't die, but just fade...Thyt means they still exist, but ...don't have a body anymore. Haunted souls or something. Just an idea.
Hmm... WHY immortal?
well, there is a legend.... but I'm not sure about it.... Count Vladislaw Dragulia (Dracula) made a deal with the devil, he sold him his soul and gained wings and immortality. That would mean that he was the first Vampire, the Father and therefore master of all other vampires. Just something I heard...

I'm more Emo than anything else. But can I join anyways? or is this and Emo free zone? And I think that vampires are immortal beacause threy are dead. _________________ In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry, and has been widely regarded as a bad idea.

Vampires can't be immortal AND dead, because if they were dead they weren't immortal! They're...nosferatu.......undead.........(for more information please check the last 201 pages of the Nazgûl club...if I start this here, Eä will kill me)

Well... they are immortal in the way that they have already died once and how do you kill someone that is already dead? Then... they actually dont live, they just exist... I will have to think about it some more.

Well, they CAN sorta die...they die in sunligt and if you stick a stake through their heart. Btw, why do they hate garlic (sp?)?

Ooh, I'm not gothic, but all my friends are goth, and I look good as a goth. Can I join? I am the darkness after all.
Oh, and I've been fascinated with vampires my whole life, I think I can help with this...
Vampires cannot die of starvation. They can go thousands of years without drinking blood, though they would be dominated by their thirst, and if not sustained, they would even turn to drinking the blood of their fellow vampires.
Also, the whole immortal thing goes with the fact they don't live off of blood really, they also suck the life force of the human being when they are changed into a vampire. They thrive on the strength of the spirit, it's
not really about blood at all.
And elves I'm not as familiar with, so I'm afraid I can't help you there.

Thank you for the informtion Tar-Vanimelde, it took us further in uncovering the mysteries of vampires. We haven't talked about the whole living off live force thing.
