Sahrai recoiled at the wave of anger boiling out of the other Jedi. "Control your feelings, Viree," he said in something similar to a snap. "We can't go taking each other out and falling down the path to the Dark Side when we're trying to save a world from destroying itself." He noticed na'Tatha start walking to meet them, so directed his attention on her. "Yes, the suite is extremely comfortable."

The subcommander noted the expressions in both Jedi eyes - they were antagonistic, at best. Apparently there was an issue in contention here. "I'm sorry, am I interrupting something?"

"As Viree said, it was nothing important.
I think in a matter of hours my team will be flying over to the Maedan side, to see what we can do there. Do you have any tips on their lifestyle, etc., that might be of use?" Sahrai asked as he clipped his lightsabers to his belt.

na'Tatha resisted the urge to roll her eyes, now forced to wonder how much mediation experience Faradej actually had. "I'm sorry, sir. Fly over to the Maedan side? You do understand that tomorrow's details have not yet been worked out, and that the fact that you are Jedi might not take you very far." Her features became serious. "The Associate cannot allow you to have contact with the Maedan until the appointed time. This is a delicate situation, and any little miscommunication or poor move on your part could plunge us into war. We need to maintain direct supervision."

Sahrai shook his head. "I'm afraid you don't understand, Subcommander - we are not acting as a force of the Taarin people - we are an independant group, and we need to remain so until we understand the situation. We should visit the Maedan before the main meeting, unassociated with any Taarin officials. Currently, we have to show equal treatment to either side. If we don't, we could spark off the Maedan and start a devastating war."

na'Tatha felt the blood rush to her face at Sahrai's indirect insult, but she kept her voice under control. "Master Faradej," she began, knowing that most of the heads in the room were turned their way, "I have studied both Taarin and Maedan foreign and domestic policy for fourteen years. There are certain things off-worlders can and cannot do; waltzing in uninvited is one of them. It would be viewed as New Republic violation of Maedan sovereignty, since only the Taarin have invited you. Do you not have the patience to wait until tomorrow?" She drew a calming breath. "I suggest that you take advantage of the expertise available to you, before you do something irreparable."

Sahrai sighed. He hated it when events did their own thing and got him in a situation like this. "In that case, I will request an audience with the Maedan, so that I can see things from their side also. Since you wish it so much, we will wait until tommorrow, but we cannot linger here long before we go to them." Turning to Kyane, he continued, "I honestly don't know who we'll be meeting with, Kyane - we'll open communications and meet with whatever officials are willing."

na'Tatha inclined her head ever so slightly. "Thank you, sir. I will do everything in my power to hasten tomorrow's meeting - but there are such things as bureaucracy." She began to walk out of the room, but stopped as a datapad in her equipment bag began beeping. Pulling it out, she scanned the information scrolling across the screen. "Manaan's finger," she muttered. "This is bad."

(I'm not Valera and I don't read those books, but it's from the 'Alanna' series, written by Tamora Pierce..... I'm guessing..... lol)
