Well, I can see Snape and Remus being the same age but I'm almost 100% sure that Lucius was not in the same year level as the Marauders + Snape. I imagine Lucius to be two or three years ahead.

Quote: he was around twenty-two when he was sent off to Azkaban, and has had very little normal adult life. Lupin, who is the same age, seems much older and more mature
Thanks for the link!
Yeah and since he would be 35 in PoA that means he would be 38ish in the sixth book.. and so would Lupin..
You know I just realized James and Lily died at age 22.. that's really sad

So what do you think Remus's background is? Now --- do we know anything about his parents? Whether or not they're alive?
I think that his parents might have been travelers [muggle travelers? wizarding travelers?]--- which is why he might've had a dirty, worn out luggage bag. So on one of their trips ---- they run into a non-too-friendly werewolf [Greyback? (wait, is that his name?)].

^^ Yup that's right he's called Fenrir (sp?) Greyback.
For some reason I have the impression that his parents might have been farmers or something like that. I don't know if that's at all hinted at in the book or it's just me completly making that up. Maybe it's just that being attacked by a werewolfseems something that would be more likely to happen in the countryside.
I wonder how his parents coped after he was bitten.
Oh and still on Lupin's age there does seem to be a possibility that Lupin could be older than the other mauraders (making that quote from JKR about Sirius' age not so certain for predicting Lupin's) In POA he says that he and his parents didn't think there was any chance of him going to Hogwarts but when Dumbledore became headmaster he allowed him in. That could meen that Lupin was older than 11 when he started.
Here's another question. In the POA film Remus says to Harry:
Quote: Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was.
If they got this idea from Jo, which I would have thought they'd have to, then what do you think he's talking about?

Yup Fenir Greyback is his name
Good explanation Kit, sounds pretty right. Did it ever say if his parents were muggles, muggle-born or both wizards?

I'm not sure. They were all taking the same test in OOTP, an older student would be taking a harder level surely. I wondered about that as well. But it's most likely to be poetic licence - to give Lily a bit more character and to give Remus and Harry a closer connection. If they got this idea from Jo, which I would have thought they'd have to, then what do you think he's talking about?

Not necessarly I would imagine if he started later he'd still start in first year and do the exams and such like at the same time as everyone else.

That could meen that Lupin was older than 11 when he started. That's an interesting look on it --- they haven't specified, and it would be very specified about what year DD came to be the headmaster. I've always had the impression that Dumbledore was already headmaster when the Marauders entered the school. Though --- we don't know at what age Remus was bitten, it could be very young, like say 6 or 7 when he was very vulnerable. And so he's had to deal with it for a couple of years before the option of Hogwarts. Elanor wrote: Here's another question. Though, yeah, there are many fans out there where they love the Remus fancy-Lilly thing, I didn't like it so much. But I guess it gets some background with the friends. I can see if Remus looked to Lilly in adoration if she stuck by him when no one else did. Which could mean that Sirius and James and Peter weren't always friendly to the werewolf. Well, there had been no real indication. But I have the impression, the only reason why Remus Lupin is despised by the wizarding community is because of his 'furry little problem'. Which means, I think that both his parents were decent wizards who could have possibly traveled around the world doing Ministry of Magic international business or just very merry travelers who love to see countries everywhere, etc.

Yeah that makes sense.
I tend to think Lupin is the same age as his friends, I mean I don't think there have ever been instances where a older students wasn't with their year..
Remus and Lilly, somehow I can't see them together, but I can see them as great friends..

I wonder why they wrote that on the script.I mean, James annd Sirius were always with him, that is one of the reasons they learn to be Animagus, so they could be with him when he transformed into a wolf. Although it quite bothers me, I found the line sweet

I wonder if there talking about something else - not them finding out he's a werewolf. From what Lupin said in book POA it was his friends that guessed and they stuck by him. In the memory scene Lupin doesn't seem particularly close to Lily. I think it might be talking about something after that maybe when Remus' parents died. Or maybe he accidently bit someone and for a while the Mauraders were so horrified by that that they abandoned him for a bit.
Of course as some people have said the director might have put it in just for an emotional moment with Lupin and Harry but you would have thought he could have used Lupin and James' friendship. I have read that JKR sometimes tells the actors things about their characters that she hasn't yet revealed in the books.
