I thought Galadriel was pretty cool, but as they say... there is a little evil in everyone...

Too true
Very nicely put eowynshieldmaiden. Tolkien actually created a lot of very powerful women in his stories; Eowyn, Galadriel, Arwen, Luthien...

Actually, I don't think that's quite true. In FOTR Aragorn says there is no evil in the lady galadriel nor in the land, unless a man bring it hither himself. One might think of her as being evil because of her test with the ring but even if she did pass the test, she was wise enough to reject it while others go simply mad over it as Boromir did. I wouldn't exactly say she's "evil".

I don't know if I agree that there was anything "evil" about Galadriel - for the purpose of the story she was certainly on the good side. But she was definately an awe-inspiring character. In the movie Gimli describes her as having terrible power which proves not to be so much evil, but certainly a force not easily overlooked. Cate Blanchett is truly a wonderful actress and she played the part perfectly.

I don't think there's anything evil about her either. Yes, Cate Blanchett was awesome. No one could have done it better.

Lol, no I don't think that Galadriel is evil either. I said "Too true" because I thought that it was a funny quote. I wasn't specifically referring to Galadriel.
I still believe what I said before:
Galadriel is a hard character to place. She's been around for so long and she's so powerful and wise that she's scary in a way.
Boromir had heard that she was a witch and he was scared to enter Lothlorien because to humans Galadriel seems evil cause she's so 'all-knowing'. She can see past what you say and can see into your mind which is creepy, but in the end you realize that she's not evil at all. She just knows more than humans like anyone to know.

She is hard to place.
I thought it was kinda neat how she "tested" herself with the ring, and she saw what she would become and desisred it no more, that takes a lot of strenght

I never really thought of it before. But you're right, she must be over 10,000 years old. I don't have the Silmarillion with me now but I'll check her more or less exact age tomorrow (if someone doesn't beat me to it).

I love Galadriel. She is one of the strongest characters for me in both book and movie.
Because I watched the movies first she made an unforettable impression to me because of the mirror scene, I just love her behavier in both books and movie. I think she's a very strong woman and deserves to be admired.
Arien, I'm not surprised you posted this topic ! Now this is my second post and I'm glad to be back!
