Um...well I'm a "book purist" and if the LotR movies got me upset (just a little but I can't watch the movies once without commenting on how in the book, "The men defend themselves and don't need the elves" and how "Aragorn does NOT fall hundreds of feet into a river etc. etc."...being that way, seeing The Lay of Luthien turned into a movie would just kill me! *shudders* It would turn into some sappy, mushy, cheap romantic R-rated movie and thats not would Tolkien intended.

Sapphire, I sort of agree with you. I am very much so a book purist, but I love the movies. I comment about how wrong they are every time I see them, but I love how the essence of Middle earth is captured. I do agree that the film makers would most likely get carried way too far away and make it a horrible R rated movie. I would be so disapointed if that happened. But if it was made to the standard of LotR, then I think it would be good.
I forgot about how Morgoth is scarred. Now he's a scarred brooding man. I was looking for pictures of Morgoth, and he is almost always portrayed as very ugly, but I don't think that is true.
This is the the closest pic I could find of what I think Morgoth looks like

Maybe I sounded a little too harsh...sorry about that. Lets put it this way: I LOVE the movies, but I LOVE the books even better. After all, if it weren't for the movies, the LotR wouldn't have been as well known, right?

I know what you mean, Sapphire. I believe that most books are better than the movies. I first saw the movies of LotR, so I didn't know any other Frodo than Elijah Wood was, and the same goes for all other characters. After FotR I started reading all the other books of Tolkien.
But there's no movie about the Lay of Leithian, so the fantasy of many people will be destroyed if there would be one...

I know what you mean. I love books much more than movies also. I love the LotR movies, but I'm a little sad that when I read LotR, I see the actors who prtrayed the characters, not the chararcter i first made up in my mind befoe the movie even came out.

Well some characters, I've almost completely lost but other characters, I still remember what they looked like. Frodo I remember because John Howe's Frodo in the Ford of Bruined piece looked EXACTLY like I pictured him...its freaky! And Sam, I still have in my head. Aragorn is almost completely gone and are most characters. It is sad but thankfully I did read the books before the I saw the movies. Twice in fact.

Oh, the picture...its Here....the piece entitled "At the Ford", above the piece featuring Galadriel and torwards the middle. Its only a back view of Frodo but that's exactly like I pictured him!

All your hotlinked pics don't show for me.
Cool link Sapphire! I like that Minas Tirith better than the movie one.

I think, Thingol should have silver-grey hair, grey eyes, for me he looks very much like Celeborn in the movies.
