Just wondering if anyone else has read it. I just finished reading it a few days ago, and I found it really quite an interesting read. It's by Marion Zimmer Bradley (hopefully I got her name right), and it's basically the Arthurian legends from the perspective of the women of the tales. I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone under maybe 13 because of all the love affairs going on, but if you don't mind, and like medieval tales like I do, it's really intriguing.
This is kind of off-topic, but for anyone who's read it: I found it really interesting that Arthur's and Mordred's birth name was Gwydion, and that the Merlin's name was Taliesin, since if I remember correctly, both are characters in Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles.
I know that TNT produced a miniseries of Avalon, but I can't see Anjelica Huston as Viviane (whom I believe she plays).
Anyway...*signs off*

I know several people who have read it and loved it! but I haven't gotten around to reading it myself, since I didn't know the author and could never remember.
Perhaps I should go looking for it...

I know! The end was quite depressing by itself, but the rest of it was pretty full of death and destruction too. Everyone I liked (Accolon, Galahad, and *thinks* I forget) died Evilishy.

Hm, maybe I should read it. But there are lots of books I want to read this summer, so Mists of Avalon has to wait some time.

Is it anything like the movie? If so, then it's really sad.

I dunno...I haven't seen the movie yet I want to though, although I'll probably be mad if too much is changed.

I have heard of that book, but I never thought of reading it. It sounds pretty good. I might go to the bookstore later and pick it up!

I love this book, I think it's pretty good
Back in the day (Back in my day I used to walk 14 miles to school in the snow! Ugh I feel old using back in my day..anyways) Years back, I saw the mini-series on TNT, and being a Loreena McKennitt music fan, I decided to watch it, and you know the Arthurian legends all appeal to me. So, I watched the mini-series, it doesn't quite follow the book, but you can see the similarities. Anyways, I happened to have the book in my book case so I decided to read the book and loved it.

I love the Arthurian legends, so I picked up this book one day and I was like "Oh! From the girls' perspective! Cool!" After which I proceeded to snarf it down and came out of it liking it immensely. I just finished rereading it. I've always wanted to see the movie, but someone told me it wasn't good so...

This is one of my all time favorite books! I originally read Firebrand and then my friend told me about Mists of Avalon. I started it when I was around 12ish but then I stopped because I had no time. Now I'm 14 and recently (uhh fairly recently) I decided to pick it up again but unfortunately I had to start over cause I forgot most of it. This time I finished it and loved it! So emotional and sad! Truly amazing writing.

Oh yes, I think I've seen the book. I have never read it before. Anyone recommend it? Is it a series? I've kind of connected it with Harry Potter when I saw the cover. Anyway . . . oh no! I'm getting too many literature recommendations at this board! Does anyone want to try telling me about a book they absolutely would NOT recommend?
tehe!

I'm reading the book right now. My aunt told me it was good and I'm into all that King Arthur stuff, so right now I'm really into it. Too bad I'm a slow reader and am only on page 187. Aren't there about 800 or so pages? Yes, I have a while before I finish.

Yes, I read the Mists of Avalon. I didn't really like all that much. It was very interesting, true, but I thought it was slightly depressing. I didn't like how Morgaine had Kevin killed and then Nimue killed herself. I thought that was so sad!

I agree, I was a little ticked off at how cold-hearted Morgaine became by the end of the book. Poor Accolon...
It's kind of funny though to see how The Mists of Avalon has influenced other writers. Today I was reading Tamora Pierce's The Immortals quartet (well, I'm only on book 1) and there was some mention of the Beltane fires and a guy with horns on his head, and I did a double-take to make sure I had read it correctly...but yeah, I guess Ms. Pierce was influenced by Avalon!
