Venn wasn't listening. Instead he was staring at a dark figure in the shadows, next to the railing. The man, his face turned away, wore a black traveling cloak and trousers. Venn narrowed his hazel eyes. Every time the man shot another furtive glance past his shoulder, his eyes glinted steel gray... like the blade of a dagger....

Venn was up in a second, striding towards the man. He came level with him in three long strides and seized the front of his traveling cloak.

"You!"

The man, nonplussed, stared with most of his face in shadow. "Whaddya want, son?"

Raine looked up and saw Venn eyeing a man standing by the railing. Suddenly he got up and grabbed the man. "Venn?" Raine shouted, wondering what in the world was happening. She quickly came over to where the two men were. "What's going on?" she asked.
