Figwit was an extra; he wasn't even supposed to be in ROTK until he got all that recognition in FOTR. And he wasn't really a indepth character, like Glorfindel. I consider Figwit and say, Butterbur on same levels. Glorfindel is a whole other level.

Yea, Arwen going to the fords would never work in book-verse... but in movie-verse I think its fine. The whole dying part thing, though, really bugs me too :annoyed2:

But I still stand by that it worked well in the movies and was a good adjustment. As much as I like Glorfindel, his absence in the movies made me happy... it just would have not worked out, I honestly think.

I love the picture Peace! Its hilarious!!!!!!HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

Anyhoo, I must say that if PJ had put Glorfindel in the movie it would have taken much too long to introduce his character and stuff. With Arwen you didn't need to introduce her becuase there would be tons of scenes with her later and Aragorn showed that he knew her.

I did miss Glorfindel though. :disgust:

My friend and I say Arwen knocked him out with a shovel then stuffed him in a closet. Then she stole his horse. And another thing. Arwen wasn't the one who commanded the river to flood like that. It was Elrond.

Elrong and Gandalf if I remember correctly!

correction: Arwen put a sedative in Glonfirdel's drink, and then stuffed him in a closet. I don't think it was Glonfirdel's horse, cuz his horse obeyed only to him right?

I love Arwen too much to counter than though it was Glorfindel in the book, doesn't everyone kinda agree that Arwen was just better? I mean think about it... you'd be introducong a character that you'd rarely get to see! The only people who'd really know who Glorfindel was would be the people who consider the Trilogy to be the Bible... by the way, if you believe in Scientology, GET A NEW RELIGION!!!!!!!!!!!!

But we want to see Glorfindel! And no, I don't consider the book Trilogy to be the Bible, but its probably a number two in book importance! i want the movie to be true to the book! And besides, if they had added Glorfindel in there would be a good chance that there would be another hot guy to swoon over.

Even though I was a bit peed off with Arwen in the movie, i understand why now. but why of all people did Liv Tyler have to play her? I think of loads of people who could have done it and wouldn't have to go through speech lessons to sound like Arwen.... such as Kate Winslet...Keira Knightly...Natalie Portman....me.... lol.just kiddin. Besides she's not that beautiful in real life, they made it all special effects, and she certianly didn't need them ear extensions, just tie her hair back and you'll see what i mean...heeeheee. But i'd like to congratualte PJ for making the ultimate Elf Princess by using computer graphics and stuff...lol.

Actually, I'd put Butterbur up one on Glorfindel, he's in the story more. I didn't even know random elf # 214 was named Figwit!
Oh, and I would have liked to see Golden-Haired, but he'd have a grand total of one sequence. Kinda a bummer when he isn't in the Fellowship when one sees the Nazgul run from him instead of visa versa. But you really wouldn't have to introduce him. Have him talk to Arry, have his name come up, have him do his thing. To movie fans he'd be random elf# 1.

Also, I think Liv did a great job at Arwen. I think when most people think "Elf" they think really cute person in their 20's, when I think "Elf" I see, to be honest, Hugo Weaving's Elrond. I think Portman would have looked awful as Arwen, and... don't get me started on Knightly. Liv has more of a mature look to her than the other two, and Arwen is over 2,000 years old, gosh she'd got to have some maturity. People say Viggo captured Aragorn so that it is hard to picture anyone else playing the role, Liv did that for me with Arwen. Which is actually little tricky for me, as once I made all the actor's switch roles in my head... Arwen was still Liv in the end. I even added actors/actresses!

This is how Figwit got his name.

Some one saw him when Frod said "I will take it. I will take the ring." She thought "Frodo is great!" Then she saw figwit and thought "Who is that?" Take the first letter from each of her words and it spells Figwit. Kinda stupid, I know.

I wish they would've put Glorfindel in...for pete's sake, they only mention Arwen like two times in the books! It's not fair. :annoyed:

Anyways, it looks like I am the only one that will be a Supporter... let me explain.

Well, first off, PJ was not the one who started the 'No Glorfindel' trend. Ralph Bakshi, the creator of the animated version, was... he put Legolas in Glorfindel's place. Now, I have a feeling that if it were Legolas snatching Frodo instead of Arwen, there would be hardly any complaint.

But this is why I support Arwen, or don't think Glorfindel would do well:

-Only cameo. In movieland, it would not be good to introduce a character and then suddenly just let him disappear. It can work for small characters like barkeeps and random soldiers, but the elf who actually *really* helps Frodo? It would just be pointless to introduce him and then for him to suddenly disappear. It works in books, but does not work very well in movies. That is probably one of the main reasons we see Haldir again, along with Elrond and Galadriel when they are not 'technically there'.

-Set up Aragorn/Arwen relationship. One of my biggest qualms with the books is the lack of context within the pages of the two; we get a nice story in the appendices, yes, but the makers of LOTR had to somehow combine the story of Arwen and Aragorn into the movies when it was only in the background in the books. We know in the books that Aragorn has loved Arwen for 68 years (by his wedding day) because of the appendices, but the movie-goers do not know that. A good way to introduce Arwen and also show a bit of Aragorn's and Arwen's love was to put her in Glorfindel's role. I am glad, though, that she was NOT at Helm's Deep. THAT would have been too much.

So yea, even though I miss Glorfindel, I understand why he was erased (alongside Elladan, Elrohir, and the Rangers, as much as I love them), and I completely see why Arwen's role had to be expanded, and this Ford scene did the trick in expanding it a bit.

I have to say that I agree with you Ainu Laire, I think that Arwen was right for the job but that mybe just because I'm a HUGE fan of Arwen/Liv. I have nothing more to add as your post said it all in my opinion. I know that others have different opinions but that it mine and the more we get of Arwen the better :-D
Sorry if you don't agree with me but it's just what I think.

Well, yeah, it does work better not to introduce characters that play a main role for just a small part, but I still want the movie to stay true to the book! And yes, we barely hear of Arwen in the books. But I still support Glorfindel.
