I got this idea from my other forum. It works quite well. If you sort stuff out or people just generally think youre nice you get 'exalted' which means your karma up. If you post a horrible/rule breaking/ offensive post you get 'smited'. Your karma shows under your Username. Any member can smite/exalt

take a look at this - karma in action:

http://williammoseley.proboards76.com/i ... 1141247521

look under every username.

just an idea :-D

EDIT: hmmmm... i just noticed you have too create an account too see that link so i will do a print screen (or you could create an account for a better quality picture - you can delete account straight after):

EDIT 2: It's small but you can vaguely see it. [exalt | smite] are links

It seems cool, but the problem is people could abuse it.

I don't know if it's possible, but it is just just a way for people to be hurt. It'd probably lead to competition over who has more karma than others, and it encouraging putting people down, which the forum doesn't support. Also, people could be hurt merely because they tend to go unnoticed, and people mightn't 'exalt' - not because they are not a nice person, or a interesting one, or a contributing member, but because there are just so many members on the forum.

I don't agree with what it implies - oooh, some people are better than others! Also, I can see it getting completely out of control. The mods have enough problems with that sort of thing without adding more. Yes, I agree that it does seem like a cool idea, but I don't think it would be worth it. At all.

Hey, I'm not attacking your idea. Sorry if you felt like that. It's just something I feel strongly about, and I was trying to explain why I thought it wouldn't work on A-U.

I have seen it on forums, but it tends to be abused. It can be hurt full. I have seen people just smite people because they dont like them, over and over again.

I agree with Herenya. Some people are already competetive over their post count... lets not create an issue.

I agree with Belle and Herenya - it's too easy for it to be abused, if a new member came in and started attacking everyone else, for instance. Maybe I'll try installing that cash modification (the one that gives "rewards" for posts) instead; it's similar but depends on an impartial system for rewards!

Gah. Awards for posts? Then we will have even more useless post-boosting.

Well, it's not quite like that. You get amounts of "cash" based on a few things: how long your posts are, how many threads you start, how many people respond to threads you've started, etc. So it might actually encourage lengthier posts! :-D

Oh, thats good to hear. Hmmm... I can still see potential problems, but they're minor. Could be fun *shrugs*

You can also limit the amount of posts that people can earn from in one day Bellethiel. Which encourages people to make their first 10 (or whatever) posts of the day longer.

I think its a great idea! After you reach val, theres no where to aim to, and a lot of people do short pointless posts, so a reward scheme would be perfect!
