No actually, I don't think he would have come back in the sixth book because like I had said I few posts eariler, I think that Rowling is trying to single Harry away from any person that would make him dependent. I mean think about it: the two people he could count on for protection; his Godfather and Dumbledore are now gone. She's trying to show him independent light and to complete what he is suppose to do on his own. So he'll probably come back in the seventh book, we all have hope.

We know dead is dead, but she didn't mention Sirius in general when she said that. He was only hit by a simple curse and then went behind the black curtain. We don't really know if going behind the curtain means he's dead. Everyone just said he's "gone".

This may sound odd, but maybe, just maybe; all who go behind the curtain can't be free until Voldemort is defeated. But that doesn't seem logical either. Well, Rowling is creative. None of us saw the curtain coming, so she may come up with something for Sirius to return from whereever he's gone.

You're right, he doesn't have to come back. I think by killing off Sirius she's trying to show that Harry isn't just going around on adventures without consicuences. But, the way he died, and the fact that she demonstrated that with Cedric; is something that nags all. The way he left just leaves too much optional. But I will read that article.
