I like him, definitely. At first I was really mad that they didn't put him in the movie, but I don't think he could have been done right anyway, he just can't be tied down enough for someone to play him, so now I'm glad PJ left him out.

I've never found Tom annoying... I've always loved him, he seems like exactly the person to talk to on a bad day.
I actully don't think Tom is Maia, or Valar, or Human, or Elf... he is.
He is Tom Bombadil, oldest and wisest.
I think he may actully be a... personification, shall we say, of the joys of Nature. Have you ever seen anything in Nature that's really sad and depressing on purpose? Tom is, to me, showing the joy and love of life that is found in the world.
There are many wonderful and amazing creatures out there, and Tom is one of those.
Out of place?
Not a bit.

I really like Tom Bombadil. He's so sweet and funny and always happy. And his songs! Awesome.
He's very original and a personality that you sometimes need when you're feeling down...

I know!
It's like they're walking along and suddenly stubble into the Prancing pony!
I miss the Old Forest!

I'm not a Tom Bombadil fan but it doesn't make sense how all of a sudden they're in Bree. The movie doesn't show their difficult journey to get there. I would have liked if the movie had shown them going through the Old Forest. Then again it would have been harder to leave out Tom if the hobbits went into the Old Forest, and I don't really know how you cast a character like Tom. He'd probably turn out all wrong.

The only tough thing they have to go through before bree was going through Farmer Magot's and that one Black Rider. They are getting chased and "stuble" apon the Prancing Pony, where they meet Aragorn and then face the marshed and meet the black riders agian.
Yeah there's a huge gap, I was hoping that PJ would at least have Tom in the EE, but that was a no go.

I don't think he was an important character, but I did enjoy him a lot. He was interesting, one of the characters that made me want to know more about him. Also, wouldn't you like to have his carefree life?

[font=Arial, sans-serif]I like Tom. No he wasn't a main character but I think he lightened the mood. I mean he did save the Hobbits from Old Man Willow and he was always singing and dancing and just a happy guy!

^Ya.
He got the hobbits out of any kind of trouble they were having in 'his' land.
