Ok, first of all I really didn't like the way it pretended to be more than a kiddie movie-it tried to have the depth and scope of...well, LOTR! (lol)
As soon as the "masterful" score began, I wanted to leave. C.S. Lewis wrote the book for KIDS! I don't see WHY they had to act like it was some huge wonderful, Oscar winning master-piece
!
Lol, also I thought the humor was contrived and boring, it was SO STANDARD! It did not have even a hint of originality. Also, I thought most of the actors/actresses were bad, and they didn't convince me in the least. I thought that the director should of come up with much better people. I mean, Peter was GHASTLY! He didn't seem to mean a word he said! And the actress for Susan did not seem to be able to figure out whether she wanted to be a goody-goody older sister or a 'shieldmaiden.'
Overall, I found it a feel-good boring movie that aspired to greatness.
And it did not in the least achieve it.

I don't agree. C.S. Lewis did write a children's book, but it can be enjoyed by adults as well. The ideas and themes presented in the story are not always childish and they contain truths that are true in all aspects of life. It is a marvelous fantasy tale and should be counted among the halls of such. I loved the score, and I thought the acting was okay, though I was a bit annoyed by Susan's slight indecision as well. They upped that in the movie, it seemed...

^Well said, RA.
I felt that it still did have that child-like wonder. I mean, it's all spelled out on Lucy's face when she steps into Narnia. I think the music expresses this as well.
I somewhat agree about Susan's character. I feel that she just wasn't quite accurately portrayed.

Awwww the score of Narnia is one of my favorite scores of all time (I'm a fan of about 400 score soundtracks so I've heard my fair share in my time!). It's so powerful, majestic, amazing, wonderful and ahhh... gorgeous. Especially "To Aslan's Camp", "The Battle" and "Only The Beginning Of The Adventure" - pure magic there!

It was cool. The battle was the best part.

May I ask WHY you found it so awful? I mean what was it that you didn't like about it?

Ooh, I haven't seen this thread before Must jump in.
I didn't vote in the poll, because none of the options really...work for me.
In general, I really liked it. I did like the BBC series mostly, but the special effects were extremely lame, and I thought they stayed almost a little TOO close to the books, as if they never quite took on a life of their own.
But then this new one...I liked the acting. I like the special effects. I loved the score
But...but...something didn't grab me. I disliked from the start the way the media tried to portray it as the next LotR, and it seemed as if the filmmakers were trying to cross the gap between Narnia's original children's-book-ness and the more epic LotR. What happened was that it ended up being...neither. It wasn't quite a children's story anymore, but it didn't achieve an epic quality. The final battle was cool, but while it wasn't a kid's battle, it was too bloodless and bright and sunny to be epic.
I didn't mind the plot changes a lot. I've become very much a non-purist.
So, I liked it, but there wasn't something that wasn't quite gripping about it. It held my interest, definitely, but it didn't have an impact. Aslan's death and Edmund's seemingly fatal injury, etc. etc., should be really emotional and moving, and they weren't, at least for me.
Anyway, I didn't feel like I should vote, because I can't honestly say that I totally loved it, but I didn't dislike it enough to vote for anything else.

I really do agree with that^
Many people go into Narnia thinking it will be like another LotR, when in reality, it is different completely. Tolkien actually didn't like Lewis's book at all! He especially didn't like the bit about Father Christmas, because it was an element from 'our world' in Narnia--and otherworldly land. Narnia is not an epic. And, even in a strict sense, LotR is not an epic either (but that's according to the literary definition). That doesn't mean one is better than the other, it's just a matter of what you prefer--and Tolkien tended to be a very opinionated person to begin with.

Yes, I must agree with Tolkien on that one point, I never really got the Father Christmas thing. Especially in Narnia...what do they celebrate on Christmas? For them it would be Aslanmas, no?
And of course it isn't LotR! Nothing could ever be as good as our beloved Lord of the Rings. Chronicles of Narnia, I've noted, isn't necessarily better or worse...it's a different feeling entirely. So while some people say it isn't epic, it's still epic for me, but a different kind of epic. LotR is the bigness of bloody battles, a unique mythology, and so many characters and cultures you can't possibly keep track of all of them. Narnia is the bigness of wonder, of good triumphing over evil, of the purpose of 'a greater magic'. Perhaps not as 'epic' as LotR, Narnia is very big when you look at it with the eys of a child. And this is what prompts me, certainly older than childhood, to be fascinated by it. The epic-sounding score, the epic-looking battles (bloody though they may not be,) and the epic themes of sacrifice, and of course that 'greater magic' remind me of the feeling you got as a toddler when you still believed in Santa claus. Overwhelmed, you've taken a look into a taste of something so huge it captures your attention in a way you haven't felt before - it's a taste of the epic genre. Wonder. Excitement. You get it in LotR, but it Narnia it's presented in a different way. And you'd still give anything to be a part of either story.

Well, let me just spew out all my opinions too...
I really enjoyed the movie, as a whole. I thought it was overall pretty awesome. But...
I do agree, Peter could have acted a bit better. I'm sort of loath to admit it, since I find him pretty adorably cute, but it's true. I really liked Susan, no complaints there, and Edmund and Lucy were, of course, adorable.
But I'm curious (and I didn't read this whole thread before I jumped in, so excuse me if it's been discussed ) what did everyone think of Mr. Tumnus? I liked him almost the best of anyone, he is also extremely cute. I know I sound like a broken record, just ignore me
My other...um....complaint isn't the right word...we'll go with 'negative observation...my other negative observation was the White Witch's costumes. I know this might just be me, but I though they were over the top.
And let's face it guys, ANY fantasy movie from here on in is going to have its similarities to LotR. It's an epic movie. Also, C.S. Lewis was Tolkien's close friend - some similarities inevitably leaked over from Tolkien to Lewis or vice versa, and these were, likewise inevitably, reflected in the movie.
