I read that one, too! It's just so fascinating. And myserious.
I love it. :)

So, what do y'all think happened to them? :D

They probably started magical cults.

Yeah, they probably started cults, at least that's what Tolkien supposed.
I prefer to think that they founded groups that were loyal to the Valar, though. It's a much more pleasant thought.

I will agree with Miremiel. I always had the impression that they were in the "Bad Guys Team" ;) although I do not know why.

Hmmm... I'm thinking they may have joined the "bad guys", since they never reported back to the Valar like they were supposed to. I guess we'll never know...

It is one of the many mysteries of Lord of the Rings, intriguing, yet dissatisfying.

I hate the "blank spaces" of Tolkien's world. It just makes you want to find out about them all the more.

yes me too... but still I like the idea of the blue istari. I don't think they became bad guys.. I don't know of course, but I can't imagine three Istari becoming bad guys..

^Ah, but Saruman was an Istari, and he wasn't exactly a very goody-goody person. :)

I always thought of them that they had not reached what they have been sent for. Somewhere, I can't remember exactly where, I read that it was only Gandalf or Olorin, who has reached his aim and didn't betray the Vala. Saruman got evil, Radagast settled down at Rhosgobel and became friend with many animals, and the Istari Luin... went east and never returned.

I didn't know that, thanks Eowyn for pointing that out. :)

Your statement points out a really interesting theory. There always is that chance that the other Istari did not fulfill their tasks. I guess they tried, but maybe it was too late.

I always liked to think that the Blue Istari tried to fulfill their tasks, but couldn't do it, for whatever reason. I think the most frustrating thing about some of Tolkien's unfinished works is the fact that I don't think even HE knew what was going on - it makes it seem all the more real to me, that the man who had created all this wasn't even sure what happened someof the time.

I've also read that Éowyn.. but still I don't think they became evil. Perhaps they just didn't care for middle-earth anymore and did something else, but I don't think they became like Saruman.

No, I never thought they became evil, it just didn't seem right. I dunno. Tis interesting to discuss.

It's an interesting opportunity for a fan fiction, that's for sure.

Without saying too much... Not a fan fic with the blue istari... but something like it, which is, in my opinion, better, is being made right now. :)

Makes me think of the Dropped into M-E RPG. Do I get a cookie? :-D Apparently we are all travelling into the east, to find the lost Numenoreans. Perhaps we find the Istari as well?
