are you sure about that?
how can you not be allowed to have a bow? are you sure the rule isn't only if you want to do some actual hunting?

It's family rule, and if you live near shooting range, it is best to take hunters ed. I must know the rules before I start shooting a bow. But it is not required, though it is recomended.

I made a bow out of wood and string (sounds primitive, but it worked fine!). Worst are always the arrows, I've found - I made them from reed and feathers but they broke after a while. Problem was the guys at the pond had cut the reeds down and I haven't got anywhere else to get them from!

I wouldn't mind taking a class....but the only archery centers/target ranges are for hunting. And I don't really want to kill anything. .... Well ... not like deer or anything like that. *evil laughter* Erm...yeah.
I did take a class a few summers ago. Not that it qualified me for anything, it was just a fun summer thing. But I remember, at the end of the class, we all brought stuffed animal toys, and used them as target practice. Wow. Let's just say by the end, all that was left was stuffing all over the place. Ha ha ha. It was great fun!
Man, I need to get back into archery. I guess I'll just have to break down and hang out with all those psychotic hunters. Ha ha ha.
And I do recommend a long bow. They're amazing. But a little strange to get used to. Well, for me anyways. Ha ha ha. We have a REALLY old one...and it's really big (long...whatever) and it's SO hard to actually get the blasted arrow to STRAIGHT! Ha ha ha....oh well.

Dowl rods make awesome arrows! They are strait and have a perfectly even barrel. the wood is also strong enough so that you can make notches for the feathers.

do yours have stabilizers? I always wanted a bow with one ... theyre horribly expensive though, and I love my olympic bow too much to buy an extreme compound

I'm still in shock over my destroyed bow. He has to buy me a new one, and I want it to be twice as expensive.
