Viggo all tidy is kinda a turn off along with his sense of fashion BUT boy oh boy is Aragorn fine when he's untidy. He's so SEXXY! I'm glad Viggo made his own costume.

I love a rugged dirty Aragorn! When his hair is soaked with grease and blood; when his hands are grimy; when he strokes his semi-beard with those grungy hands, thereby making his semi-beard even more grungy, I just wilt in my seat and drool. Mmmmmmmm.
He looks so much better as a grungy sexy ranger. I don't like it when he is all clean in RotK. He looks kinda fat. But as a ranger.......hello!

Yeah, totally. He definately looked "fat" in ROTK. Okay, maybe not fat...but chubbier. :P Maybe because he'd finally eaten an actual meal. :P Ha ha ha. I think he finally...shall we say...aged by the time he was crowned. :P Oh I don't know...he just got lazy. ;) Ha ha ha.

Garrison Keiller has a good point, I think, in a piece in the Sunday New York Times:

"What you find today is terrible gender anxiety, guys trying to be Mr. Right, the man who can bake a cherry pie, go shoot skeet, come back, toss a salad, converse easily about intimate matters, cry if need be, laugh, hug, be vulnerable, perform passionately that night and the next day go off and lift them bales onto that barge and tote it. Being perfect is a terrible way to spend your life, and guys are not equipped for it anyway. It is like a bear riding a bicycle: He can be trained to do it for short periods, but he would rather be in the woods doing what bears do there."

Untidy, grungy, greasy, bloody...rugged. But handsomely performing in their element.
Is that where we would really rather see men?

That was kind of interesting, Sinbearer, but I don't think it applies much to guys in Montana. Mr. Keiller's description of "Mr. Right" doesn't appeal to me much, anyway. Bake a pie? Converse easily about intimate matter? Cry if need be? I don't know a guy like that, and not very many women either, nor do I want to.

As for where I would rather see men, I would rather see men where they are most comfortable, as long as they aren't ordering me around or interfering with my comfort.

Give me Aragorn, who could totally slice off an orc's head but probably wouldn't have any idea how to toss a salad, any time.

Oh, Aragorn would toss a salad. Off a cliff! The most baking or cooking I can imagine Aragorn doing would be to squewer a piece of deer and roast it over the fire.

I think you guys make some good points. Some of them made me laugh! In reading this thread from beginning to end I think your consensus is pretty well the voice of most.

I think what Keiller is speaking to is the reality of the pressures and trends happening to men in metropolitan America. (And other similar places) Of course, the whole reason for his article was to agree with what you expressed quite well.

It is true, however, that Keiller's description would apply more to Aragorn in a social, city setting than to Aragorn as rugged ranger. Those are issues faced by men in a more refined, urban, suit and tie world of business, politics, and the arts.

Definitely not men in Montana! LOL!

Yeah, I definatley agree with that. Of course, I don't live in Montana, so I don't know much about how the guys there act.

But Haldir, when there's blood in the hair, you can't tell that it is red. It just looke wet. Maybe in blonde hair it would look red *Tests theory on own sister, using said sister's blood*

Larien, you can't honestly expect me to believe that if a guy baked you a pie, you would turn him down. A PIE!! And YOU! PIE!!!!! PIE!!!!! Yeah. Exactly.

I think Garrison's quote is a good one....but hmmm....I'll stop before I make a fool of myself...I'm running on about 4 hours of sleep in the past 72 hours...

OK, so maybe if a guy baked me a pie, that would be cool...but only if it were a fruit pie, and the crust was good. And he had an accent or a guitar.
What I'm saying is...besides the fact that I can't believe you actually like that quote...that I would rather have a guy that I can laugh with and can fix the odd sink, as opposed to one who could "cry if need be."

Can you really imagine Aragorn baking a pie? Not Viggo, who I'm sure could if he wanted to, but Aragorn?
