This is incredible! I haven't been here for a day or two and there are five brilliant poems on here!! Can I copy your lyrics, Eariel?? They're great!

Thank you, and if you want to save my lyrics, that would be fine. ;) I suppose we have quite a horde of poets here! :) Does anyone else like (or write) alliterative verse (like the Rohan-style poetry ;) )?

I actually just wrote this, I thought of it in the shower, it deals with stuff in my life...and so on..Errr...I'm still working on it...so it's not quite finished :p

Learning the lessons of life

Within a day I learned the power of life,
I've heard teenage love, and
the power of love between a man and his
wife who has breast cancer.
I've listened to a stranger recount
stories over a cast iron pan.
And felt the joy of seeing a friend
who has not been seen in a year.
I've heard the sound of bagpipes,
and listened to the soft buzz of a mosquito.
I've heard stories of sorrow, love and life.
I've learned how delicate life is,
like a single strand of hair, so brittle
and thin and easily broken.
I've wandered a lonely staircase,
steep and dark only with a single window.
I've turned the key of life and entered the
doorway, learning, living and breathing.

Sidawethiel, that's great! I love your poem, I love that you mention the big things in life as well as the tiny ones.

The last part reminded me of Sam climbing the Orc-tower to find Frodo. :)
As it happens, I'm also working on an alliterative poem. It's really long (covers the whole Mount Doom episode), so I'll only post a couple verses. These two are just after Frodo has been talking about how he can see the Shire and Bag End and all again. (When this verse starts off, Sam's talking. ;) )

"And Rosie enraptured--her red locks held rainbows--
Had I wed in the World, if no War smote the West-lands,
My love would that lass be." For lost joy forlornly
Sam wept in the waste--yet though worn, someone watched him.
"Oh, Sam." Arms encircled him, soothing such sorrow--
The Questor he'd comforted cradled him closely.

"My dear one, I dread not this death nor the darkness--
With Errantry over, as all things are ending--
For here I am holding my Hope and my Haven,"
He tenderly told Sam. One tear he let trickle,
For Westerlands weeping. The wayfarers weary
Lay down--with his dearest friend each would be dying.

Edit: I just noticed it's like my avi. :P

Aw, thank you! I'm honored. :) I love writing poetry, and i've been doing it for a while, so i'm glad that people like my work. My poems mostly rhyme to the teeth (like armed to the teeth, lol), but i've recently discovered that i like alliterative verse as well. It's kind of a relief to not have to worry about rhymes. I still like rhyming, though.

Sure! :) Sonnets are hard to write. In Shakespeare's time, they wrote a lot of them--it was sort of "the" form of poetry for love poems. I've only attempted a couple of sonnets so far...

Good for you! I haven't attempted that with any of mine, yet. Is this your first one to have published, or have you done it before? :)
