I'd forgotten I was a member here! :o

Okay...

Quote:
If you could talk to Professor Tolkien and ask him one single question, what would you ask? Just wondering.
I'd ask him how he'd recomend people study his works further, meaning, would you recomend we study books which influenced Middle-Earth's creation, or the languages you used, or what?

Quote:
Why do you all admire Tolkien? Or do you just admire his great work?

I admire his literary ability, and his ability to create his own, legit, languages. He's a man of principle, moreover. Quite brilliant and of good character.

Hey, everyone...I just checked out the founder, Varda's, account and she said back in April she was leaving the site. So...let's just say you've joined the club. :P

Eowyn_Simbelmyne asked: Why do you all admire Tolkien? Or do you just admire his great work?

So I guess just start talking Tolkien. :P

I admire his work of course. But I also admire him as a person (e.g. that he broke in the horses of the army), because I think there always is a connection between the personality/experiences of the author.

After watching all the extra stuff on the extended DVDs about Tolkien, I really started to appreciate him as a person, in a lot of his stories he includes a lot about life, he was genius from the day he was born. =P

That he is. Then again he made magical things that made it seem so. Every word with meaning so special you must read it again and again eh?

exactly. I really love his style. Everytime I read any of his books it makes me feel great. I also wish I knew more about him and his works (but you can't know everything.. ;)) I sometimes ask myself how you can't love Tolkien's works, but there are some who don't love them no matter how well you try to explain everything to them..

They really are. And so many make fun of Tolkien lovers, calling us Geeks, nuts, etc. not realizing how much effort Prof. Tolkien put into his works. How much time, how much study, how many years it took him to create what I believe is a classic of the 20th century. There aren't many who'd work so hard at their own languages and complete history for a brand-new mythology.

Hmmm...I wonder: What do you think is the best way to help introduce people to Tolkien and also get them to appreciate his works? Even if they don't fall in love wtih it.

I really don't know ... I've tried getting my friends *actually, "force" would be a more appropriate word haha* to read more than just one page of LotR, but they just kept insisting it was boring. I don't know ... maybe those audio versions of the book can help. Most people prefer listening to reading.
