The first time I read FotR I did skim read the Council of Elrond but now I find it facinating
The chapter I'm not so keen on is Fog on The Barrowdowns. I find it confusing and hard to picture. I've never been very sure what actually happened then.

I also really loved the council of Elrond. There was so much background information, it's one of my fav chapters in FotR

I really enjoyed that chapter, what with all the history, the hearing of Bilbo's tale, and gandalfs and all the other tales. It was quite cool i thought. But i don't think i would have understood alot of it if i hadn't read the Silmarillion first...

I've just reread this chapter and I can only agree with you Galadhrim-arrow and Aduial-Galad, it was so interesting and the way it is written, absolutely incredible

i love all the chapters but if there was one that i had to pick as my least favorite it is the first one. it's like, "okay it's your birthday now can we get on with the story?" for me it just takes to long.

I do agree with ya Aduial-Galad, it was a great help to read "The Silmarillion" first and then face "The Lord of the Rings". And, well, I consider "The Council of Elrond" to be a very important chapter in the book, dunno, it shows us an important piece of Rivendell and how everything works out...dunno, I don't have any chapter that I hate, each of them are complementary to the others

I liked all the chapters. In the book. All of them are very helpful, relevant, and explanatory.
Some of the movie 'chapters' were really ucky.

It's not as hard as the Sil. It's basically a collection of stories all gathered into a single chaper.
I mean, look at the CoE chapter. If you read through it, you have a) Gandalf's story, B) Elrond C) Gimli's story D) Boromir's story etc. You have material in there for quite a few tales!

Good point Ivreniel, yep that's true. 'The Lord of the Rings' is not as hard to read as 'The Silmarillion', even though they both are amazing books
