Well, I didn't think I'd
ever write a fanfic, but guess what? I did! As far as I know this wouldn't be more than PG, but if any of you think it is, I'll edit my post and post a link

Now here goes!
Title: First Kiss
Subject: James/Lily ship
Summary: Lily tries to sort out her feelings for James as James tries to make her jealous
First Kiss
"Great practice Potter!" James' teammate yelled to him as James left the Quidditch field. "See ya tomorrow!"
James barely heard the shout as he walked to the locker rooms. His mind was on a girl; a very special girl who did <i>not</i> seem to appreciate anything about him. Lily's words came back to James as he thought about her,
<i>"Messing up your hair because you think it looks cool to look like you've just got off your broomstick, showing off that stupid Snitch, walking down corridors and hexing anyone who annoys you just because you can -- I'm surprised your broomstick can get off the ground with that fat head on it. You make me SICK!"</i>
<i>I just don't understand girls,</i> James thought as he finished changing. <i>I'll talk to Sirius about it.</i>
----
"Class dismissed!" Professor Flitwick called in his high-pitched voice. "Have a nice day!"
As Lily picked up her books, she looked over to where James was laughing and joking with his friends. <i>Why did I have to be so cruel to him?</i> she mused to herself. <i>For all I know, he'll never ask me out again!</i>
<i>But he was being cruel</i>, the other half of her brain told her. <i>You can't just let that go.</i>
But still, as Lily walked out the door, she couldn't help feeling her heart flutter as she brushed arms with James. He didn't even look at her, however, and Lily felt her heart sink.
----
"I don't know what to do, Sirius!" James muttered as he dragged his hands through his hair. "I can't ask her out again if she <i>hates</i> me!"
"I agree with ya there, mate. Maybe use the classic trick of playing hard-to-get. Make her jealous and spend lots of...time with another girl, if you know what I mean." Sirius grinned and winked at James.
"I guess it's the only thing I <i>can</i> do..." James sighed, ignoring Sirius's wink.
----
Lily was searching for a Potions book in the library when she heard a deep murmur of a male's voice, and then a faint, high-pitched giggle. <i>That sounded like James' voice</i>, she thought to herself. <i>But what do I care if he's with another girl?</i> Even as she thought it, however, Lily crept over to where the sounds were coming from.
Peering through a bookshelf, Lily could just see James sitting at a table, very close to a pretty brunette, who Lily recognized but couldn't name. As she watched, James smiled and brushed back the girl's hair from her ear and whispered something into it. The brunette smiled, and put her hand on James' cheek. Then she leaned in and--
<i>They're</i> snogging<i>!</i> Lily's brain screamed at her. She involuntarily let out a choke. At the sound, James broke off the kiss and looked up and around. Lily tried to act like she was reading but felt her cheeks grow warm as his eyes fell on her. Abruptly, Lily left the library as her eyes filled with tears. She willed them to go away as she thought, <i>What have I done?! Now he thinks I'm</i> spying <i>on him!</i>
----
As James looked up from his kiss and rested his eyes on Lily, he had to repress a grin. <i>It's working!</i> he thought as he saw her blush. But then she was leaving, in a hurry, and James wondered if he'd gone too far. He muttered an unconvincing excuse to his brunette "friend" and hurried after Lily.
----
Lily felt a hand rest gently on her shoulder. She tried to quickly wipe away her tears and act as if she was perfectly fine as she turned around. When she saw who it was, though, she stopped, and then marched off.
"Lily!" James called behind her. "Lily! I can explain!" He hurried after her.
"Who says that I care?" Lily demanded. "You can snog whoever you please, <i>Mr. Potter</i>!"
"Well...it's just...I thought...," James stuttered as Lily gave him a disapproving stare. "Look, Lily, I know probably hate me and all, especially ater seeing that, but I think I really should explain, even if you still won't go out with me..."
At this, Lily's face softened a little. "Go on, Potter," she commanded.
"Lily," he began, "I've liked you ever since the beginning of our first year. You were always so kind and smart, and of course amazingly beautiful," he stopped and smiled to himself. "I'm sorry for being a prat and tormenting Severus, it's just, we've never...errr...met eye to eye. And what you just saw me doing in there, well...ummm...I was trying to make you jealous. Sirius said that if I just play hard-to-get..." James trailed off into some incoherent mutterings as he looked down and flushed. <i>Now you've really done it you prat!</i> he told himself.
"Well, first of all, never take Sirius's love advice. Secondly, I forgive you for the Severus thing. And I apologize for being so rude to you." She moved a little closer and took James' hand.
He lifted his eyes to look at her. "Does this mean...?" he started to ask, but his words were cut off as Lily placed her lips on his. Instantly James began to kiss her, and she relented. He put his arms around her and drew her closer. James could feel his heart race as he felt Lily's warm, soft lips pressed against his, and his teenage fantasies came true. He never wanted to let this beautiful girl go. Her body was very close to his now, their chests smashed together. James could feel her heartbeat, as well as his own...
After a few more moments of lip-lock (which was not nearly enough for James), Lily broke off the kiss and said, "We'll see. I don't know if I'm ready for a relationship with you just yet." Then she turned and walked away, leaving James feeling dazed.
<i>Well, it's definitely an improvement,</i> he thought to himself as he smiled and made his way back to the Gryfinndor common room to find Sirius.
