Shannon heard Lillian's voice, which made her jump. She held her chest and took a deep breath of relief. "Yeah, everything's fine. Mort's papers are just making a mess up here." She sighed and made a nice pile on his desk.

Mort rocked back and forth in a more obvious pattern. He couldn't stand it much longer. "Get out of 'ere...leave me alone...leave me alone! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Shannon looked over the railing of Mort's stairs and stared at him, obviously a little hurt by Mort's outburst. "I'm just trying to help you, Mort..." She told him softly and slowly walked down the stairs.

Eric drove on the New York highway while listening to Snow Patrol and other bands native to his home country. The traffic was horrible; it was almost bumper to bumper. Frustrated, Eric drummed his fingers on his wheel while waiting for the car in front of him to move.

No more noises could be heard upstairs. It was dead quiet...however, the whispers in Mort's head finally stopped. These whispers were now replaced by mimicking laughter. _________________ <center>

Mort couldn't stand it anymore. He let out a loud moan and stood up away from the couch. "Stop it...stop it...stop it..." He quickly walked on over to the kitchen not once glancing at the others in his house.
His techni-colored robe dragged on the kitchen floor. Violently he scavenged through his cabinets, throwing the unecessary items across the room, even if they were glass mugs, they went across the room too.
Finally with a shakey hand he pulled out a small plastic jar. He quickly opened it up and poured out numerous white pills into his hand, though some did go falling to the counter and into the sink.
Without second guessing himself he threw the pills down his throat, got a cup of water from the sink and painfully swallowed them down.

Shannon watched Mort leave into the kitchen. She quickly went down the stairs and followed him inside. She watched him in horror, as he swallowed all of the pills. "Mort, what on earth are you doing?! You're going to kill yourself!" She cried to him and grabbed the plastic jar from him.

The laughter and whispers completely stopped. It seemed that whatever was playing with his mind could tell that it had gone much to far. Silence came over the house and a calm in Mort's mind that he hadn't felt in a long time.

Mort stood still. He took another swallow of the water and closed his eyes feeling the sudden peace filter throught out his mind.
He sighed deeply and brushed back a hair that had crept its way into his frames. The silence in his mind felt like a cool glass of water after crawling through a hot and dry desert.
He turned slowly around to face Shannon. Finally, his dark eyes lifted to meet those of hers. They weren't looking past her anymore as if they were in a different world, no, they were looking straight towards her, fully aware of what they were seeing. "...oh, hey Shannon.."

Shannon stared at him, with tears in her eyes. She looked like she was about to go over the edge. She let out some air and then turned around and left the kitchen. She started pacing back and forth in his living room, completely upset. She bit her lip and stared down to the pills, sadly.

Lillian shouted as she watched the horrific scene between Mort and Shannon. She would have done something, but knew not what she could do. The sudden change of Mort scared her, and she hoped it was just a side-affect.

(I don't know why yer droppin' out, but ok...)
Mort looked at Lillian next. "...oh, you're here to..." He took off his black frames and with the sleeve of his robe wiped away the fog and finger prints that had clouded his vision.
He lifted them towards the light, then repeated the process for another minute or so, before he lifted the frames back onto his face.

"Huh, really? Didn't notice you..sorry." He gave her a friendly smirk and started to go through his fridge, "...want something to eat, like warm corn from a steamy bowl?.." He looked back at her face, then back to the fridge.

How could he not have noticed her when he was yelling at both her and Shannon? No... she was not going to think about it. She came here to visit Mort in her time of need, not to be scared.
Taking a deep breath she shook her head. "No thanks Mort, already ate."
