Kim's heart sank, as the word spoke in her head over and over.
"Friends? I don't understand..I thought." she stumbled nervously over the words.
"Ive been trying to tell you all this time.." she took a deep breath in and blurted it out "I love you. I've always loved you."

John blinked and sat back, feeling somewhat shocked. He had always felt his love would be unanswered. He held his forehead and looked at the floor.
"No no no..." His mind kept repeating over and over. "No please... She can't..."

Kim knelt beside him. "John?" she reached out to him. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said a thing. This is too much to take in." she took one of his hands gently "I could never tell you before. They'd have us both killed, or put into the pens. I couldn't let them do that to you. So I continued living a lie. Trying to forget about how I felt, I almost did."

He shook his head and slowly rose to his feet.
"Could you... please leave me... I need to think..."
He ignored her and sat on the bed holding his forehead, seemingly angry or sad with something.

Kim backed off and walked over towards the wall facing the bed, and sat down with her head resting on it. She looked over at John, he looked as confused as she felt.
This wasn't how it went in my head she thought to herself, before letting out a low, melancholic sigh.

John shook his head and rubbed his forehead hard. It looked as if he might rip his skin off, were it not for the power inhibitors.
"Kim I want you to leave. Go back to your room. I need some time alone." His voice low and quite cold. "Please..."

Kim looked shellshocked. She stood up and almost fell over, her legs were shaking. She didn't know what to say, she was so confused.
She knocked on the door and quietly asked the guards to take her back to her room. She turned to look at John before she left, hoping for at least a smile. But he wasn't even looking at her.
The door slammed over and one of the guards escorted her back to her room.
She was let inside and the door closed with a hard knock. She turned back to her bed and sat on the edge. Completely numb, she lay down and curled herself into her pillow.

John's finger nails clawed at his forearm in frustration and anger. As his mind wandered at the conflicting thoughts in his mind his finger nails dug into his skin, making deep cuts in his arm. He didn't recognise the pain at first until he eventually looked down and sighed. The cuts were long and blood slowly seeped out.
"I hate you ..." He said to know one in particular.

Kim lay on the bed, tossing and turning unable to sleep. Her thoughts dwelling on the events with John. She couldn't understand his reaction to what she said. Her mind torn between kicking down the doors and having it out with him, to giving him the space he said he needed.
She dug inside her pocket and brought out a cigarette to smoke. Getting up from the bed, she walked over to where her bag lay. Rummaging around she smiled weakly as she found the remainder of her alcohol. Slumping down she opened the bottle and began to drink it, inbetween drags of her cigarette.
Putting her hand back into the bag, "I forgot you were here" she said pulling out a long chrome sai.

Icefire was mediating in his chamber again when Magneto's voice cracked from his earpiece in the antechamber. "Erik, come in, Erik, I need you to go to my study" Icefire sighed, got up, and walked out of the chamber, picking up his earpiece as he went. "Yes, Magneto?" he asked.
"I didn't destroy your train of thought, did I?" Magneto asked mockingly.
"Actually, I was bringing it to an end."
Magneto had said nothing more until Icefire went to his study. Once Icefire presented himself, Magneto asked, "How are your guests of honor doing?"
"I think they are fine," Icefire replied. "I questioned the woman about Titaor and she was cooperative."
"Good, I expect her information to help you with your task."
"Actually I already knew what she told me. What she didn't tell was the blueprints of his lair or his prisoners."
"Have you, by any chance, seen Dani?" Magneto suddenly asked. "I know for a fact that she tried to contact you while you were in your mediations."

Lucifuge stood up and paced around the room. His thoughts constantly on Kim.
"Why did she have to say that?!..." He said to himself. "Oh Kim..."
He sat on the bed and rubbed at his self inflicted wound. After a while he rose to the door and knocked on it.
"Hey, I want to talk to your leader."

Kim sat, caressing the sai handle gently. She gazed at it almost lovingly, before her thoughts turned back to John. She cursed herself for letting her emotions get the better of her.
You moron she chastised herself What were you thinking? Were you even thinking?
She took a long swig of the remainder of her bottle before returning to her conflicted thoughts. Why tell me he loves me then cold shoulders me when I reciprocate?
A swell of frustration bubbled to the surface and she launched her Sai at the door, it piercing the wood deep.
Wiping away tears she buried her head in her hands.

The bike stopped slowly as it made it's way up towards the familiar old building. The rider looked over at the gate The Xavier Institute, and let out a sigh. Revving the engine back up they made there way through the gate and up the pathway. Turning off the ignition, the rider disembarked and pulled of the helmet as the long blonde hair flowed and tumbled down her back.
"Home Sweet Home?" she questioned herself before walking up the steps to the doorway. Punching in her security code the doors swung open.
No-one was in the main lobby, all seemed eerily still. Swallowing the lump in her throat, Tania Creed called out "Hello..anyone home?"
