That's a good simile, Eariel. I also often think about the water of the ocean when the sun is shining on it. (Here you can see that I really like the ocean )

yes I'd like very much! but which club? and how can I join?
I totally agree, Lij's eyes are a piece of sky in Heaven but I am sure it is not as blue and heavenly as them
in this site there is so wonderful stuff, pics, poems, I'd like to have all day to read them all. I read a poem about Frodo leaving the Middle Earth, about his last unforgettable smile. Every time I see the movie (countless)and see that smile and look I lose ten years of my life

Oh, that smile was like the sun breaking through the clouds of sorrow at parting. I'm not sure the sky is as beautiful as his eyes, either lol. Btw, the club i meant is the one you're posting in right now. I'll add you to the member list on the first page.
Forever, I love the Ocean, too. That's a good metapher--i hadn't thought of it that way. Mine is more the sky at morning, filled with sunlight, (as i've already said ) while yours is the Sea with the sun shining on it. Interesting. They're both good metaphors, and they both involve light. How truly we describe the radiance of Elijah's gaze.

it's just a heavenly gaze, never seen such a gaze on this Earth. I think every metaphor we create for his eyes will never represent the reality of them, because we can only compare earthly things and they are not earthly things. That last scene in the film is so sad and my heart bleeds every time
thanks for adding me to the list, I am happy. I see I have just become a "hobbit"

Lol! Show me the girl that doesn't compare Elijah's eyes with something involving light and sun.
This smile at the Grey Havens scene was where I actually fell in love with Frodo. I was sitting there and staring at him and smiling back...lol, I think I looked very stupid, but I had the feeling that he was smiling at me, just at me. I think many people feel like that when they watch this scene.
Btw: I noticed that we're getting quite poetic and lofty...which is not bad, though .

yes that scene (smile) really kills me. Every time I see it I have a lump in my throat and a hard rock on my heartI. I't beatiful share all this with someone who can understand. I fell in love with Frodo/Elijah immediately when I saw him in the first shot, because when I saw those eyes eternally wide-open I lost my mind and I don't know where I can find it again. I know everyone compare him with things like sun, sky, light, that, infact, are the elements of Heaven. But I know these are only pale reflections of his reality..
am I too poetic or affected?
I can do worse..

First and foremost, there's nothing wrong with being poetic and lofty or anything like that. The truth is, nobody may talk like that, but everybody thinks like that.
And secondly, that last scene always makes my heart cry. It makes my soul ache and not want it to be over. But when he turns back and smiles, that says that it is over. You just get so tangled up with wanting the characters to be victorious, that you forget that no matter what, they will be tied to a fate based on their part in the adventure. And that's how it was for me with Frodo/Elijah. I was so happy that he'd succeeded, that I forgot he was still had to sucumb to his own journey's end.
Ok, i put in my poetic, sappy part.

^How truly thou speakest! (Speaking of poetic ) You're right--even though my normal speech isn't all lofty and metaphorical, my poetry is, and the latter more rightly reflects what's in my heart. I'm not sure whether everone's like us, but it's nice too know there is an "us" (not just "me" lol) involved.
Forever: lol! I would be hard put to show you an Elijah fangirl who didn't--at least, if she thought about it. Speaking of the sun, and its setting, the Grey Havens always makes me cry, as well. I'm glad that he sailed west--for what better ending could there be than for the Ringbearer we love to be healed in the Undying Lands?--but it's still sad. Sort of bittersweet, you know? An otherworldly feeling. (Which can be the best kind. )
Btw, you're welcome, Earendil. Congrats on becoming a hobbit, lol. I like moving up in the post count ranks as well.

Tolkien's book shows the fight between Good and Evil but at the end, even though the ring is destroyed and the Evil seems to be defeated, we know that things won't be the same anymore, there will be always a shadow hanging over that world. And Frodo's leaving means this. My sorrow is the same as the other hobbits' sorrow, my tears are their tears, it is so sad looking at their tears, but I am happy to share this with them. Someone can think it's silly to identify with no real and fantasy characters but I feel this way, maybe it's the power of literature or fantasy or something else I can't say. Lord of the Rings is much more than a simple fantasy book.

Sometimes fantasy brings something deeper than ordinary reality to light. It's like the whisper of unearthliness beyond the world...

I think it's healthy for the human mind to feel and believe in a place un-like our world. It's good for us to escape to another place for some time and learn to understand a different place, no matter how fantastical it may be.

You're right. (The more fantastical the better, in my opinion. ) I think there is something in the human spirit that longs for a place that's better than this world (one Elvish name of which is Arda Hastaina, Arda marred)--a place where we can be who we were meant to be; a homeland we've never seen. These are my present philosophical contrubutions to this thread. I sorta remind myself of C. S. Lewis...

lol...but you're perfectly right! This is exactly what I think about it; only that I have problems to express it so well. It kinda weird, but I never find the right words to talk about the philosophy of Tolkien to other people. It's also the fear that they don't understand and laugh about it. It's a difficult topic, I wrote tons of pages in my diary about it

I don't really keep a diary, but i think a lot, and i write poetry. (I have tons of poem notebooks! ) I know what you mean about being afraid to talk about it to people, though. As a poet, my "job" is sort of to try and find words for things that are hard to express. You write poems too though, i know (right?), so I guess you know about that.

...thoughts and feelings can always be difficult to express...the eternal question of...did I get my meaning across..?
...however, Elijah doesn´t seem to evoke the same problems or issues...admiration for him just seems to flow from everyone...amazing inspiration..!
...anyone seen his new movie..?..Hooligans..?

Oh yes, I know very well what you mean, Eariel.
Poems are good to express feelings and emotions, but when it comes to kinda philosophic questions (whether Valinor represents the Paradise and so on - you know, with Tolkien being Catholic and all the questions that come with that), I prefer to write down my thoughts in my diary.
Btw: Have you already started to build your website for your poetry? I'm so curious
Zandain, I haven't seen Hooligans yet. It's a shame, really.
